Mid-range hotel – don't expect too much This hotel is clearly mid-range; you shouldn't expect more. The location in Patong dominates the entire stay – the area is heavily influenced by sex tourism and mass tourism, which is unfortunately reflected in the hotel. The atmosphere at breakfast is sometimes unpleasant and not very relaxing. It's also very annoying that the security deposit is only accepted in cash (up to €100). This is outdated and unnecessarily complicated for a hotel of this category. Cleanliness was generally okay, but nothing special. The friendliness of the staff varies greatly and clearly depends on who you encounter – a consistently professional service is lacking. Breakfast is average: some Thai breakfast items, some European ones, overall okay, but without any memorable quality or variety. In our opinion, Patong is completely oversaturated with tourists and is no longer one of the attractive areas of the island. Acceptable for a short stay – but not recommended for a vacation or relaxation.

The hotel has potential – unfortunately, it's not being fully realized. The grounds appear tidy, but the service is generally below average and doesn't live up to the standards of a four-star hotel. The check-out process is particularly bothersome: In Phuket, it seems to be common practice to have rooms checked again upon departure. This leads to unnecessary waiting times and appears unprofessional. A relaxed departure is something else entirely. The requirement for a cash deposit is also incomprehensible. In a hotel of this category, a modern and transparent solution should be standard practice. In conclusion: The Rak Elegant Hotel is adequate, but falls far short of expectations. Three stars would be acceptable by any stretch of the imagination, two and a half stars would be more appropriate, but four stars (as listed on Booking.com) are simply not justified.

I had a guest visit me during my stay, and hotel staff disclosed that private information to another guest. I have no idea why anyone on staff would share personal details about a guest’s visitors with anyone else. It’s not their business, and it’s a serious breach of privacy. This incident had a real impact on me and completely destroyed my trust in the hotel. Privacy and discretion are basic expectations at any property, especially at this price point. After this experience, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it.
