We stayed at Regency Inn and Suites in St Augustine Beach because the rate was fair (about $60) and the location is genuinely excellent, very close to the beach. For travelers prioritizing proximity and price above all else, it may do the job. That said, the room would not work for even mildly fussy travelers. Housekeeping and overall cleanliness were the main issues. We travel with bleach spray and ended up doing a meticulous wipe down of the room and bathroom ourselves. It was noticeably cleaner when we left than when we arrived. The two small towels we used to clean were filthy afterward, which says a lot about the baseline level of cleaning. We also found chip crumbs on the bedspread, as if someone had eaten there and it was missed during turnover. The bathroom was functional, but it needed a significantly better clean, like the rest of the room. The front desk staff was friendly, and the pool area looked okay, though it is awkwardly placed right behind the front desk, so we didn’t end up using it. Overall, you do get what you pay for, but the biggest improvement would be better, more attentive housekeeping. Paying housekeeping better and supporting them to do a more thorough clean would make a world of difference, because the location really is fantastic and the room, once truly clean, was nice enough.
