CHARMING and CHARACTERISTIC and NOT generic. We stayed here during a sticky heat wave for 3 nights. PROs: 1. Nelson. A wonderful host and helped us arrange a car to pick us up at the airport and bring us to this charming property as we arrived in Rome very late at night from a flight from the US. Nelson is the heart of this property and he was wonderful to chat with and get his local recommendations. I love Rome and have visited several times and this was my absolute favorite accommodation (stayed at Marriott/Starwood properties in past - all fine but for this trip I wanted a historic and authentically Roman experience.) 2. LOCATION. It is located a little north of the Spanish Steps but in a lovely real Roman neighborhood and the converted home has been here for many generations. There is a metro stop two blocks away next to Harry’s Bar. But we walked everywhere and loved being close but also away from the touristic areas. Local restaurants offer solid Roman cuisine for fair prices. We loved having aperitivo on the outdoor terrace of the Hotel Eden a couple blocks away. Just go and grab a drink and watch the golden hour unfold in front of you. We did this twice without reservations and loved being so close to this lovely outdoor bar but not having to pay the Hotel Eden price to stay there. 3. BREAKFAST. Lovely spread by Nelson that included wonderful pastries and egg dishes and awesome espresso. We are vegetarians and found our breakfast hearty and tasty and loved chatting with Nelson and getting advice on our daily itinerary. 4. ROOMS. Charming rooms. We stayed 2 nights in a larger room with a balcony and our last night in their basic room. Both were clean, cute, with nice bathrooms and good strong showers. The beds are comfortable and the sheets soft. CONS: I was worried that the rooms are fairly close to the breakfast area. I am a very light sleeper. Happy to report that the rooms were quiet and we were not disturbed at all by early breakfast diners. Some people may be intimidated by the elevator, but it too is charming and lovely and it works so just use it! OVERALL: authentically Roman place with wonderful host in a Roman neighborhood close to a Metro and tourist spots but not so close you feel crazy. We will return!
