What I liked about the hotel was the location. Located near the Baikonur metro station in Almaty. If you book the tour to the lakes and canyons, the meeting point is at the parking area across from the hotel. This helped a lot because those tours leave before dawn. Room was spacious. Breakfast was delicious and inclusive in the room rate. There are several restaurants and cafés along the same row. What I didn't like is nobody at the front desk knew how to smile nor speak English (didn't even have the initiative to use Google translate). I don't mind the communication barriers but at least smile! But i think it's a central Asian thing being exSoviet. I had experienced this is other hotels in Uzbekistan. Also, I've stayed in many hotels ranging from budget to middle tier. This was the only hotel I've stayed in that do not have bottled drinking water in the room. In this day in age, bottled water is as basic as soap. Also the remote control to the aircond wasn't available. The room became very hot and stuffy due to the heater. I had to leave the window slightly ajar and tolerate the sound of traffic. I've some tips. Booking thru the hotel website was cheaper than booking thru Agoda. However, don't opt for the airport pickup because it cost way more than using Yandex or taxi. But the real problem here is, the hotel appointed a third party driver, who had me carpool with guests from another hotel in an ordinary sedan car, yet I was paying premium for this service (10k tenge versus 3.5k tenge on Yandex). The hotel needs to assess who they engage for airport pickups. My driver was friendly and informative however i felt short-changed as I had to squeeze with two other strangers in the back seat, whom I had to wait for 20 minutes at the pick-up area of the airport. They were also dropped off first because their hotel was on the way but I was tired from the flight and for having to wait for them at the airport, I just wanted to reach the hotel as soon as possible.
