Residence Inn Bryan College Station

Recently stayed at this property while visiting family over the holidays. The staff were very accommodating of our request for a lower level room and we were assigned a studio on first floor (one in our party is disabled). The room was clean, the decor pleasant and the appliances in the kitchen appear to be new. The bed was very comfortable and there is a good sized desk with power and USB outlets near the entry door. As we were here for several days as a stop on a 3200 mile road trip, we used the laundry facilities and were happy to see a laundry basket in the closet. The laundry facilities are on first floor and centrally located. The breakfast service was well organized and well stocked. The hotel is in a great location, near many restaurants and shopping, and within a short distance to the main campus of Texas A&M University. We had a great stay here and were able to rest up before taking to the road for the last 1050 miles of our road trip.

Very shabby hotel. Unexpectedly so. The wallpaper is cracked and majorly peeling in multiple places in multiple rooms, the shower curtain had cigarette burn stains, the bedsheets had a huge water stain over the top, and half of the lights in the bedroom didn't even turn on. I spent a half hour battling with bugs crawling on multiple surfaces. I was so tired that I could have overlooked all of this, if it weren't for the water. The water temperature is absolutely abysmal. The bathroom sink water never heats up, even after leaving it continuously on for 5 minutes straight, so you're washing your face, washing your hands, and brushing your teeth with ice cold water. The shower is even worse. It also takes a long time to heat up, but once it does, it heats up all the way. There is no possibility of just warm water. It is either you scorch yourself or you freeze. Even if you attempt to gradually inch the handle down to mix water temperatures, once it gets past a certain threshold, it will proceed to jump straight from boiling hot water to water that has never known the caress of a heating unit. I'm usually ok with cold showers as long as I can clean myself off quickly enough. Unfortunately, I made the grave oversight of not bringing my own soap, shampoo, or conditioner. All of the soap provided (bar soap, body wash, shampoo) does very little in the way of actually cleaning; it basically just forms a slick film on your skin/hair that's impossible to completely wash off, so I spent way too much time in the shower trying to rid myself of the sliminess. On top of that, I was not impressed by the breakfast. The reason I initially chose to stay here over somewhere else close to it was because of the free breakfast. Their breakfast selection is limited, which isn't surprising, but I was at least expecting the food to be fresh. I had waffles from the waffle machine, and the batter was surprisingly sour, like the batter had expired a long time ago. I couldn't stomach more than a few bites. And finally, the service. I only had two direct interactions with hotel service: check-in and check-out. Check-in was fine, but when I was trying to check-out at 10am, I could not find a single member of hotel staff nearby to help. There was no one behind the desk or in the room behind the desk, and I couldn't seem to find anyone else working in the main lobby area that could help me. It took around 10 minutes for someone to finally find me and help me, and at that point I had already gotten a sheet of paper and was writing down a check-out message because I needed to leave to catch my flight. Overall, a very bad experience. 2/5 because at least the bed was comfortable.
