Residence Inn Coralville

We got a real nice room with a full kitchenette and a private bedroom. Huge breakfast and the staff are great. Very friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Iowa City.

Stay at a lot of RI. This one has pleasant front office folks, nice sized rooms. However, it is perrennially kind of beat up (college football crowd?), and this particular stay, our room was not serviced over the course of 4 days. The front desk was non apologetic or helpful over this. Not up to Marriott standards.

We stayed here in August and were extremely disappointed. I primarily stay at Marriott properties as a Bonvoy Platinum member because they are typically clean, safe, and well-managed. Unfortunately, this Hawkeye Hotels–managed property does not meet Marriott standards in any way. There were multiple serious issues during our stay. We found centipedes/millipedes in the room—one on the bathroom floor, one in the bathtub, and even one in the light fixture. Needless to say, this made it very difficult to sleep. The tile floor was also sticky and filthy to the point where shoes were necessary just to walk around the room, which is completely unacceptable. Breakfast was another major problem. With 15 minutes remaining before closing, there was almost no food available. The employee running the breakfast area was rude and clearly uninterested in addressing the issue. Even worse, she locked a guest’s child out of the kitchen area simply because she wanted to close early. This was shocking and completely unacceptable behavior. Before leaving, I asked to speak with a manager and was told no one was available because it was the weekend. I requested a follow-up call on Monday, which never happened. I eventually contacted Marriott Corporate and only then received a response from the General Manager, which was unsatisfactory. Despite all of these issues, there was no offer of any compensation or goodwill gesture, not even an apology in the form of points. However, the hotel was more than happy to take 54,000 Bonvoy points for a two-night stay. For transparency, the General Manager is Melissa Reinhart, Dual General Manager for both the Residence Inn Coralville and Fairfield Inn & Suites Coralville, operated by Hawkeye Hotels. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel, as it does not live up to Marriott’s standards. Since the same company also owns the Fairfield Inn & Suites across the street, I would avoid that property as well.
