Residence Inn Upper Marlboro Joint Base Andrews

I've been a Marriott Bonvoy member since 2023 and have had generally very good experiences with this chain. I booked a room at this location back in early January 2026 for a one night stay in March, as we were in town for an event at The Anthem. We arrived at 2:30 for a 3pm check in and were told by front desk that our room wasn't ready yet and that we will be notified as soon as it is. That was perfectly fine since we were early anyway - we just sat in the lobby and waited. A little after 3pm, the desk attendant walked over to us and said the current occupant of our room requested a late check out of 3:30 and it would be an additional 30 mins or so after that to clean it, putting us getting our room around 4pm. I asked if there was another room we could have, smaller/bigger, it didn't matter to us, and I was told there was none. Confused, I asked why that guest was granted a late check out last minute when we've had our room reserved for months, and we were told because this person is an ambassador for the hotel chain that they they were granted it. Me and my two other guests already had our luggage with us inside and had already been driving all day, so we decided to wait another hour in the lobby. The attendant offered to reduce our rate, which was kind but also standard to do for service recovery. 4pm came and went and we still hadn't been updated. Around 4:15 I went up to the desk for an update and it was a new person at the desk who knew nothing about this and asked if we could wait for the previous attendant to come back from break. A few mins later, the previous attendant returned but we then waited another 10 mins seeing as there was now a line of other people checking in. At 4:30, we were told the room was still not ready, but she said she will give us another room (which we were told earlier there were none). We were given the discounted rate and I was told they'd also give me 10,000 points toward my Bonvoy card (I haven't seen that show up yet but maybe it takes time...). Overall, I'm very disappointed in the fact that people are getting the VIP treatment when Bonvoy member policy clearly states that a late check out is only granted based on availability. It's a bad look for the hotel and makes me feel like less of a valued guest. The front desk staff was nice, and I know they can only do so much when their hands are tied. As far as the room goes, it was very clean as usual and was the perfect location for what we needed.

Terrible experience…I checked in and at reservations told them I was having guest for a a few hours…the lady Domonique at the front desk said that was fine but can’t stay the night…I checked my account the next day and they charged me an additional $250 saying I had a party and safety reasons. I did not have a party but other people did have a party. And kids in the hallways was smoking weed but I guess that is not a safety hazard! I called to try to resolve things and nothing done!

AC shuts off 5 minutes after you go to bed, so don’t expect to sleep well if you like AC.
