Rinn Kitagomon

- Our room smelt like mildew and wouldn't go away even if we turned on the humidifier. - They don't give you disposable slippers as advertised in their photo which is a bit misleading. I would have brought my own if I knew that was the case as it seems so dirty sharing the same pair of slippers with everyone else (I don't trust their random sign that says it's been sanitised). - check in is at 4pm and they don't allow for early check in. This is the latest check-in time I've seen having travelled to many countries. On top of that check out is at 10am. - there is no daily housekeeping services unless you pay 3000 Yen which is ridiculous for a 4 star hotel at their price point. On top of that, you need to let them know by 8pm the night before if you want your room cleaned. - You're given a key for your room instead of the usual key card at other hotels. Make sure you don't misplaced it otherwise you're paying 10,000 yen. - the room door doesn't auto lock like other hotels so also make sure you are locking it behind you each time. - the carpets are heavily stained and so are the cushions for sitting on the floor. - the toilet smells even worse as there's no windows and ventilation sucks. - aircon is full of dust and obviously hasn't been cleaned for ages. See photo. Wouldn't recommend staying here for this price point.

The rooms are clean, cozy, and thoughtfully designed, with touches like tatami seating and minimalist decor that create a calm atmosphere. The staff are kind and helpful, making check-in smooth and easy. The location is excellent — quiet but close to major attractions and transport. After a day exploring Kyoto, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Comfortable, elegant, and full of that warm Kyoto hospitality.
