Riva del Vin Boutique Hotel

Beautiful room and an excellent location on the grand canal

We spent one night at this boutique hotel in Venice and, based on the very modern and luxurious-looking photos, had opted for a comfort room. The price of around €180 per room, plus the surcharge for the larger comfort category, initially seemed fair, as the pictures conveyed a spacious, modern, and freshly renovated impression. However, the reality was quite different. The building is considerably older, and even the renovations appeared dated upon closer inspection. The elevator repeatedly displayed error messages, and overall, the hotel had a slightly dingy feel in places. In our room, the wallpaper was peeling in some areas, and there were several unsightly stains. While the comfort room itself was clean and generally equipped with everything one could need, its size and atmosphere fell short of our expectations. The room was dark—due to dark wallpaper and a small window—and, contrary to the photos, we had no view of the canal. The bed was relatively small for my height (1.85 m), so my feet hung over the end. The bathroom also had some shortcomings: the faucet was loose and only partially functional, and there was no toilet paper holder at all, which further detracted from the otherwise high-quality impression. All in all, the hotel didn't feel as modern, luxurious, or boutique as advertised online. For the price we paid, we would have expected a room in better condition and with the promised standards.
