Had a wonderful time at the hotel! We went to celebrate my partner's birthday, and they went out of their way to make her feel special. Was a fantastic spot for our first time in Portland, would definitely go back.

Whew. Where to start? I debated posting this because normally I’m super laid back and understanding of bumps here and there, but this place was… awful. The first time I stayed here was roughly a little over a decade ago, and it was amazing. Imagine my surprise when I come back expecting everything to be awesome again only to have a profoundly different experience. I stayed here a couple of weeks ago for 2 nights and let me start by saying this place needs renovations. Badly. The prices DO NOT reflect the quality. Talk about super overpriced. If I could get a full refund, I would. Everything here is heavily politically driven, so good luck if your views differ in any way from that of the general Portland populace. The breakfast staff on the first morning were super rude, inconsiderate, and kept us waiting for quite a long time (like 30+ minutes long time). The only reason I gave a second star for the staff is because of the very kind waitress on the second morning and the cool bartender in the King Tide restaurant. But even the restaurant was subpar. If you like overcharged food and the random addition of spices like cloves to every single cocktail, then great. Hopefully it was some sort of seasonal thing but I couldn’t find one drink that I wanted because I’m not a spice-in-my-cocktail fan. The bed? Expect a hard mattress, no fitted top sheet (they literally just put a normal sheet on top, tuck it in, and hope for the best), and a weird smell. It felt musty, dirty, and uncomfortable. I’ll never stay here again. Staying here was the worst part of a vacation I had otherwise been looking forward to.

Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel on Portland Waterfront is awesome. Tonight I had a dining experience in my room (that has a wood burning fireplace, I might add) that reminded me why I love great service. Dealing with a severe wine allergy can often make fine dining a bit of a challenge, but the Chef here handled it with total precision. When a chef can prioritize guest safety without compromising on "perfect" flavor, they’ve earned a customer for life. Well done.
