Title: Comfortable Stay but Needs Better Food and Communication I recently stayed at the ROK Hotel Kingston, Tapestry Collection by Hilton for three nights. Overall, the hotel served its purpose, but for almost US$300 a night, I expected a bit more consistency in service and value. I booked a one-bedroom unit, which was comfortable and ideal for one person. The TV had plenty of channels—though I mostly watched the news—and the thermostat worked perfectly, allowing me to adjust the temperature just the way I liked. I also enjoyed the beautiful view of Port Royal, watching fishermen heading out early each morning. Parking was convenient at a flat fee of US$11 per night (US$33 total), and the front desk staff were generally friendly and helpful. However, there were a few inconveniences. The pool and ice machines are located on the 4th and 6th floors, but if you’re staying only one night, your key card may not give you access to those levels. You’ll need to ask the front desk to enable it. Once I extended my stay, I was able to access the 4th-floor ice machine without issue. The food, unfortunately, was disappointing. I ordered the Caesar salad (about US$11–20), and it just felt like it was missing something—it wasn’t terrible, but not worth the price. I also tried the tuna wrap from the café on the ground floor, which I’d rate one star at best. The bag of chips I wanted to go with it cost US$7–10, which felt excessive. Honestly, you’re better off taking a walk and grabbing food outside the hotel. Maybe other menu items are better, but I wasn’t impressed with what I ordered. I also had some frustration with the parking process. Even though I mentioned at check-in that I had a car, no one informed me that I needed to pay and get a parking sticker. I ended up going back and forth several times between the parking lot and front desk to sort it out. This kind of miscommunication could easily be avoided if the staff were more proactive in explaining procedures upfront. In general, I feel this isn’t unique to ROK Hotel but reflects a larger customer service gap in Jamaica—staff often wait for the guest to ask rather than anticipating their needs. Improving that would make a big difference in the overall experience. Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. The hotel is comfortable, the view is nice, and it met my basic needs—but for the price and “five-star” branding, the food quality and guest service could definitely be improved.
