Beautiful venue.

We stayed at this incredible hotel for 6 nights. We were afforded an early check-in after a long overnight flight from Canada. Everything about our experience was amazing. Megan at the front desk is a credit to this hotel. She consistently went above and beyond for us and made our stay exceptional. Laura, the manager of Hardy’s bar was equally incredible. They are both invaluable assets to this hotel. Breakfast was delicious and had more options than you could ever want. The location - so close to the pier and the Dart, perfect. We loved our room and can’t wait to return. I traveled with my teenage son, and we both appreciated this experience from start to finish, including a reserved table in front of the TV for the 6 nations match. We look forward to returning. Highly recommend.

Really disappointing stay. Check-in was a mess - too many people checking in at once, likely due to a rigid 3pm check-in policy. They didn't even have seating for all the tired travelers waiting in the lobby, because ALL of the seating was reserved for paid tea service. Can't spring for a few sofas and chairs? The rooms are so different from the pictures online as to amount to false advertising. I get that historic hotels have variation. But what I paid for was a decent sized room with good natural light. What I got was a room that barely fit the furniture (it even had less furniture than depicted online - just one chair, no table), and one with almost no natural light because it looked out over an unsightly interior courtyard. The only reason the one chair fit was because they tucked it into the window alcove, but since the window lacked privacy sheers, I either had a chair obstructing movement around the room, or privacy - never both! It had to be moved any time I wanted to access the fridge or coffee maker. That was my third room that was like that, so I'd say the odds of getting a room like the one advertised is quite slim. This is minor, but the room also had no cups/glasses, and part of the bathroom faucet was falling out of the tub making it difficult to use. I was really looking forward to relaxing in the steam/sauna/pool area but they have allocated 4 hours a day to family time. The sound of kids screaming in the pool is too loud in the sauna and steam room to get any relaxation. They also make you bring flip flops or buy theirs (5 euro) but no one actually wears them - so don't fall for that scam like I did. They have swim lessons here as well, so lots and lots of kids. So much potential squandered. The staff were really great. Shame on the hotel owners/managers for putting them in a position where they can't reasonably meet guest's expectations that were set by misrepresenting the rooms. "Classic Room - Interior View" - there's your new room category, it's slightly less expensive than classic, and allows one to upgrade to a room with proper lighting. Everyone's happy. See how easy that was?
