Royal San Marco Hotel

This hotel was, without exaggeration, one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had in Europe. A place that lives off its name and location, but not its service or quality. I arrived at 10:00 AM and was held captive in the lobby until 3:00 PM, even though the room and bed had been ready since early that morning. It wasn't a policy issue; it was a lack of willingness and total contempt for the guest. Zero empathy, zero solutions, zero professionalism. Customer information is nonexistent. No one bothered to mention that the minibar/bar was included in the room. Is it so difficult to explain something so basic? I only found out about this "detail" too late, after my stay had already ended. Terrible communication and mediocre service. The bathroom is an absolute disaster. Every shower turns the floor into a swimming pool. Poorly designed, uncomfortable, unhygienic, and completely unworthy of a hotel that claims to be reputable. The room door seems like it's from another century: you have to slam it shut for it to work. Unsafe, noisy, and embarrassing. But the worst part was the bed: a supposedly double bed that was sagging, droopy, with a hole in the middle, so uncomfortable it ruined any rest. Sleeping there was worse than sleeping on an old sofa. This hotel is the perfect example of how NOT to treat a customer: • They make you wait for no reason • They don't explain anything • Neglected facilities • Destroyed beds • Cold and arrogant service Venice is magical, but this hotel tarnishes the experience. I wouldn't return even if they gave me the room for free. I don't recommend it under any circumstances. There are much better options with staff who actually understand hospitality. OK

The hotel offers somewhat dated luxury, good service, and an unbeatable location, though lacking views. The room, however, was a shame—it was ridiculously small, very clean, and clearly lacking in maintenance.

It's clear they're exploiting the location to deceive guests in every other aspect. This is NOT a 4-star hotel... at best, a 2-star hostel. The rooms are nothing like the photos the hotel uses; they belong to a different hotel altogether. We don't understand how something like this can be allowed. The rooms are old and tiny, with old beds, sagging mattresses, and sagging bed frames. The furniture is worn, and the drawers and doors don't close properly. Most of the electrical outlets are broken. The two windows in our room wouldn't close; they stayed half-open, which meant cold and drafts in the room from January 1st to 6th (during our stay). The shower screen had two broken rubber seals, so water leaked all over the bathroom. Not to mention, the bathroom is only big enough for one person; two people won't fit. Daily cleaning is practically nonexistent; they only make the beds and provide clean towels. They don't sweep or mop, and every day they rearrange the furniture. If you complain, they tell you they're full, and that's just how it is. Breakfast is served in an adjacent building, meaning you have to go outside to eat. The breakfast selection is limited, and if you're allergic to pineapple, you can't have any fruit because there's only fresh pineapple or fruit salad with pineapple, and nothing else, even if you ask for it. In short, the whole hotel is a disaster. That said, you are just a minute away from St. Mark's Square.
