I stayed at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience that did not meet Marriott standards. My first room on the 16th floor had a very strong rotten egg odor that overpowered a heavy cologne-like smell. I contacted the front desk and was moved to the 17th floor, where the odor was still present, though slightly less noticeable. That room also had cleanliness and maintenance issues, including hair in the bathroom and a light fixture that did not work. When I raised these concerns, I was relocated again to the 10th floor. While the egg smell was gone, the room smelled like chemical or renovation fumes. The bathroom towels were stained, the bathroom was not properly cleaned, and there was exposed wiring near a light fixture. By this point it was around 5:00 a.m., and after being moved three times, I was exhausted and felt I had no choice but to stay. Additionally, the A/C did not work properly. It would not run on high and repeatedly shut off. Maintenance initially explained that the temperature is controlled by the hotel, but ultimately had to repair the unit because it was broken. Overall, the repeated room moves, odors, cleanliness problems, and malfunctioning A/C made this stay feel more like a budget motel experience than a Marriott hotel. This was meant to be a relaxing stay, and instead it was frustrating and disruptive. I hope management reviews these issues and improves the guest experience.
