Santa Grand Hotel East Coast, a NuVe Group Collection

Great hotel not too far from the airport. As we realised our day use booking doesn’t offer us the best use of the time, the staff member at the reception helped us with options. Room has everything a transit visitor needs even toothbrush and all. Free minibar was a fantastic idea. The biscuits and coffee at the lobby helped us too. We were farewelled with the same courtesy with getting us a cab at 3am. The welcoming supportive vibe was there with the staff and also with the room arrangements. Will definitely choose this hotel when we go back. Thank you Santa Grand!

Front desk was rude and unhelpful, instructions unclear on trip.com booking that i needed a physical card for a $100 deposit. Thereafter the front desk just took down the number. So was the physical card not needed afterall. Upon initial inspection, i thought i didn’t have a physical card. When i told the front desk that, they looked at me and said “so how you plan to check in?” Outside noise is very loud as well, the construction and road traffic is clear as day. Not sure why they listed sound proofed as i’m not even sure if i can sleep to this much noise.

Having stayed at both 3-star and 5-star hotels in the Marine Parade area, I took a gamble on the Santa Grand Hotel East Coast to see how it compares to the nearby Holiday Inn Express. I booked a 14-day stay in a Deluxe King with Skylight & Bathtub directly through their website, taking advantage of a 40% long-stay discount. The Room & Amenities The room is undeniably large, but it feels under-furnished. There is a lot of "dead space" that could easily accommodate a sofa, a dining table, or a larger closet. After seeing other rooms being serviced, I suspect these large footprints are designed to be retrofitted for 3 or 4 beds for groups. On the positive side, the LG mini-fridge is excellent and actually keeps items cold. This is particularly useful because the hotel offers a "Free Mini Bar" service. While they market this as a perk, it’s worth noting that many hotels in this category provide similar basics (water and a few sodas), so it isn't exactly a game-changer, though still a nice touch. The air conditioning is the real highlight—it’s quiet and powerful. Remarkably, the hotel even air-conditions the hallways, a rare luxury that makes a huge difference in the Singapore heat. The skylight provides the only natural light; the shade works well for total light or total dark, though I couldn't find a middle ground. Noise & Insulation Issues A major drawback is the lack of soundproofing. The walls seem to have zero insulation; at night, I could clearly hear guests in the adjacent rooms snoring. During the day, the experience was further dampened by ongoing construction on the street. Between the thin walls and the external noise, it isn’t the most restful environment. Furthermore, there is a 1.27 cm gap beneath the entrance door. While the hotel is very clean, this gap is a concern for both privacy and potential pests (though I didn't see any). The Bathroom & Maintenance The bathtub was a significant letdown. Even when turned to the maximum setting, the water is lukewarm at best, even in the shower. If you are planning on a hot soak, you will be disappointed as the water doesn't stay warm for long. I eventually gave up on using it, and it served merely as a splash guard to keep the bathroom floor dry. Maintenance also needs attention: my toilet seat was loose and wobbly, and one light switch didn't seem to operate anything. Also, note that there is no self-service laundry here; they use an outsourced service which can be quite pricey for long stays. Value Comparison With the 40% long-stay discount, the rate was better than the Holiday Inn Express down the road. However, at a standard rate, I would suggest shopping around. The extra space is nice, but the lack of hot water and thin walls are hard to overlook. TL;DR: Fantastic AC and very spacious, but "Deluxe" is a stretch. The walls are paper-thin (you can hear snoring next door), the bath water never gets truly hot, and the "Free Mini Bar" is fairly standard. It’s a clean, solid budget option if you get a deep discount, but compare it to the Holiday Inn Express before committing.
