This hotel is an absolute disgrace and in no way, shape, or form worthy of calling itself a five-star resort. What we experienced here was so shockingly bad that I feel genuinely obligated to warn everyone: do not stay here under any circumstances. The disaster already began before arrival. Communication prior to the stay was beyond unacceptable. Emails were simply ignored. After booking, I requested an upgrade to a pool villa—something that should be a routine process for a supposed luxury resort. Only after three emails and more than two weeks did anyone respond. By then, the upgrade price had magically more than doubled, and the hotel insisted on this inflated price without any explanation or flexibility whatsoever. Five days before arrival, I tried to book an airport transfer. No response at all. Not a single reply. I had to call the hotel myself to avoid being stranded. On the phone, there was no apology, no acknowledgment of their failure—nothing. Cold, indifferent, and arrogant. The so-called “service” on-site was abysmal. Everything felt neglected and dirty. The rooms were old, worn down, and smelled heavily of mold. Yes, the resort is largely built from wood to create a “traditional Thai style”—but wood can be maintained. Here, it clearly was not. After the first night, we were forced to change rooms. On the terrace of the original room, there were hundreds of flies nesting directly inside the wall next to the outdoor bathtub. Using the bathtub was completely impossible. I understand traveling to Thailand means being close to nature—but if I am paying nearly €500 per night for a so-called five-star hotel, and if I paid extra specifically for that bathtub, I expect to be able to use it without bathing next to a swarm of flies. The rooms smelled intensely of mold. After moving to a different room, the flies were gone—but the musty, damp stench remained. The food was terrible. Truly awful. Low quality, poorly prepared, and completely unworthy of the prices charged. The alcohol was so cheap and badly mixed that we did not drink a single cocktail during our stay. The service in the restaurants was just as bad—slow, inattentive, and indifferent. We booked a private excursion on a longtail boat. After 30 minutes, the engine broke down in the middle of the sea. We were forced to wait another full hour at that exact spot before a replacement boat arrived. Once again: no apology, no refund, no compensation—nothing. Even after I explicitly complained. The clientele was unpleasant and inconsiderate, and the hotel as a whole was nowhere near the standard one expects at this price point. Not even remotely. I would not have paid half the price knowing what awaited us. This place felt like pure mass processing—from check-in to the awful dining experience, morning and evening alike. No individuality, no warmth, no hospitality. At check-out, we were not even said goodbye to. The only thing that seemed important was that we paid our additional charges. While checking out, around 40 guests were processed at the same time. It was chaotic, impersonal, and poorly organized. Nothing here felt luxurious. Nothing felt thoughtful. Nothing felt five-star. I strongly and unequivocally advise everyone against staying at this hotel. Save your money, your time, and your nerves. There are countless better options in Thailand—this is not one of them. Avoid this place. Completely.

We stayed 4 nights in a Deluxe Sea View room at Santhiya Resort & Spa Koh Yao Yai and the biggest issue was black mold / heavy dampness throughout the room. The smell was strong and constant, and we could see mold in multiple areas (bathroom, corners, surfaces). Because the resort is largely built from wood, it feels like everything is slowly disintegrating and holding humidity, which makes the mold problem even worse. This isn’t just unpleasant — it’s a major health risk, especially for anyone with asthma, allergies, or sensitivities. Food was also a major issue if you have dietary restrictions. There was no allergen information anywhere (buffet or menus), and gluten-free options were nearly non-existent. When we asked, staff basically pointed to fruit as the solution — which is honestly ridiculous for a resort charging premium prices. Eating safely here was stressful and felt like an afterthought. And the service/logistics were extremely frustrating on departure: after checkout we waited 47 minutes for our luggage to be delivered, which meant our taxi had to wait for us. Completely unacceptable and avoidable if the resort was properly organized. Lastly, be aware the pricing feels misleading: menu prices are “net” and then extra charges are added (service/VAT). On top of that, many things you would expect to be included at a resort are additional paid extras, so the overall cost climbs fast. The views are beautiful, but a pretty location doesn’t make up for mold, poor maintenance, and management ignoring serious health and service issues. I would not return and wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone who cares about cleanliness, safety, or transparency.
