Great location in the center of Kouvola and the breakfast was rich and varied. In the early evening there was music from the bar downstairs, but luckily it stopped before going to bed.

Scandic Kouvola – a disappointment I stayed at the hotel for a business trip. Unfortunately, the experience was negative. 1. No restroom at reception. You can only use the restroom after checking into your room, which is extremely inconvenient for guests arriving from a trip or waiting to check in. For a hotel of this standard, this seems odd and unacceptable. 2. Outdated rooms. The rooms are in dire need of renovation. The furniture and decor are clearly outdated: an old bed, old doors, and a general feeling of wear and tear. The hotel is in dire need of at least a cosmetic renovation, or better yet, a full-scale renovation. 3. The elevators are in poor condition. The elevator buttons are severely worn and appear "dead," creating an impression of neglect and poor maintenance. 4. Parking issues. The parking door doesn't close, raising questions about security and access control. 5. The housekeeping service is a particular disappointment. The next day after work, I returned to my room during the day and wanted to film a video in daylight, but the room hadn't been cleaned. At reception, they explained to me that "someone indicated that cleaning was not required." I hadn't requested a waiver. It seems as if cleaning is simply marked as "not required," and the staff leaves without performing their duties. This was the most surprising and disappointing aspect—this level of service seems unacceptable for a chain hotel. 6. Dirty entrance doors and windows in the reception area. I'd especially like to note the condition of the entrance doors and the main glass windows in the reception area. They were noticeably dirty, with streaks and marks, creating an untidy first impression. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common problem—elements such as doors and entrance windows are often overlooked during cleaning, even though they are what form the first impression of a hotel. Overall, it feels like the hotel hasn't been updated in a while and exists solely on the brand name, not the actual quality of service and infrastructure. I expected a completely different level for a Scandic chain.

We stayed with my family on Saturday. The receptionist had a really nice lady and we were able to check in in advance when the room was already ready. There was something confusing in the systems, but everything went well. I even got my forgotten Finnair tickets added afterwards. The kids got "drink" tickets for mocktails. The room was quite large, but quite dreary, the sofa bed mattress was thicker than the standard bed. The bathroom was ok, but there was no space to put a toiletry bag. The shower cubicle was a bit cramped, but we could wash ourselves there. The mocktails were a basic orange, apple juice + sprite mix, there could be alternatives. The breakfast was pretty basic, but I would have liked some proper bacon instead of country bacon, the white beans were dry and not the normal white beans with tomato sauce. The scrambled eggs were dry, but tasted okay. We filled our stomachs and were able to play several hours of hockey with the help of breakfast.
