Mixed feelings about the Garner Hotel. Check-in went smoothly, and the entrance is neat and spacious. The room itself was clean and well-maintained. There was a good, strong water jet, and the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, there were also some downsides, mainly focused on the service. The staff were friendly. There's no doubt about that. The website and information page (available in the room via a QR code) stated that the restaurant and bar would be open. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The restaurant is closed more often than it's open. Poor communication and misleading. The only nearby option is a greasy snack. If you want à la carte, you'll have to walk at least 20 minutes. Parking is expensive, and you're lucky to find a spot later in the evening. Coffee and tea facilities are not provided in the room. A small refrigerator is also missing. These are relatively basic amenities that make the stay much more pleasant. On Friday evening and night, there were locals (I chatted with them upon my return) who, I believe, were using the hotel as a café (now the bar was suddenly open). As the evening progressed, the noise became increasingly loud, to the point of being annoying, as people regularly smoked outside, creating a lot of noise. We're late risers, so it wasn't a problem for us, but I can imagine it being annoying for early risers. All in all, an "okay" hotel for one or two nights if, like us, you have something to do in the area. Unfortunately, we'll probably look for a different hotel if we ever go to Oberhausen again.

1 night Sat/Sun. Location okay. Hotel in an industrial park. It used to be a good Best Western. Nowhere online or during booking was it stated that parking in front of the hotel costs extra! Fee: seven euros. At 10:30 pm, not a single parking space was left, not even at the electric car charging station! The beds in the double room were twin beds that had been pushed together and separated as soon as you stood in the middle. The shower was broken; the shower head fell off the hose as soon as you turned on the water, flooding the entire bathroom. This could have been easily fixed with a simple piece of tape, but: complete incompetence. At reception: A young, friendly, but clueless employee who was so slow that it took her 35 minutes to check us in. She charged seven euros for the outside parking lot, which took 5 minutes. She charged a 20 euro deposit for a kettle in the room, which she then forgot to give us, and initially refused or wouldn't issue a receipt for the 20 euro rental fee. 10 minutes. The breakfast advertised online as "All rooms with breakfast" was supposed to cost an extra €19 per person!!!! Discussion: 2 minutes. Extra charges of €15 for checking in one hour early. 5 minutes. Thunderous droning and drumming continued all night, as if there was a band rehearsal room on the floor above us. It finally stopped sometime after 1:00 a.m., and we were able to sleep. Conclusion: Never again.
