Staying at this property was an immersive, beautiful, and evocative experience. The room is meticulously designed. It's spotlessly clean and full of exquisite details, in addition to its impeccable comforts and furnishings. The breakfast room and breakfast are exceptional. The entire staff is incredibly kind, helpful, cheerful, and highly professional. A special mention for Marienza: exceptional! The sextantio, in addition to caring for and welcoming guests, provides an excellent service to Matera itself, representing and promoting it in an excellent way.

Sextantio is magic. I stayed at this property for three nights over the Immaculate Conception long weekend, and before writing my review, I wanted to let all the emotions sink in. It's important to point out that I have an almost ancestral connection with the Sassi of Matera... Having the opportunity to stay in one of the Sextantio caves was a real treat and a confirmation of how much this place has stood still in time. The property overlooks the stunning Murgia Park, enchantingly illuminated by the moon at night. The conservative renovation of the rooms and the deconsecrated church (where breakfast and an exclusive dinner are served) is simply moving. Sextantio is certainly not suitable for those looking for large screens or pay TV (there are no electronic devices of this kind), another great added value of the property. The caves are intended to seal an experience and a leap back in time, which is why, in addition to electricity, the cave is decorated with numerous candles. The cuisine is nothing short of exceptional, starting with the raw ingredients this wonderful land offers...a riot of flavors unlike anything you've ever experienced. The reception and kitchen staff seem to belong to another planet, with their characteristic anachronistic kindness. I especially thank chef Nunzia for making me experience something magical. The almost surreal setting of the church where breakfast is served is meticulously crafted; nothing is left to chance. I'd give a special mention to the breakfast, which is difficult to put into words: you won't find industrial products, but exclusively homemade delicacies; you'll be greeted by sublime banquets. For me, Sextantio is the Pearl enclosed in the marvelous shell of my magical Matera.

It's impossible to describe the experience we had at Sextantio in Matera. Words give way to the lights, the candles, the carved and constructed stones that create a unique setting, both in the cave reserved for us and in all the shared indoor and outdoor spaces. The valorization of beauty and the preservation of the past, its uses, and the relative functionality of everything made available to guests, makes it the protagonist of a marvelous thousand-year saga, capable of banishing from our minds all the mediocrity of the era we are unfortunately suffering. The people who preserve, not manage, this beauty are capable of demonstrating not the usual competence and professionalism, which are already rare commodities, but a humanity that no longer exists. And which has given us moments of exchange that we will never forget. Unique, like the underlying vision, so powerful that it inspires emulation, somewhere else, in some other magical, "minor" land, yet, as such, waiting only to be rediscovered and illuminated in all its astonishing beauty. A thank you for all the life that remains.
