Shakespeare Hotel

Amazing hotel great staff and great location! 5/5

We stayed at Shakespeare last week as part of a Group. The Hotel is in a great location for a lot of restaurant selection, close to Echoland Spicy bus stop, the front desk staff are very nice and speak English. However the rooms are Small, old, and run down. The sink was cracked and rusty and all rooms come with a bucket for the leaks. The most common thing in Japan is the heated toilet seats, they are everywhere public parks, bus terminals train stations etc....Well not in Shakespeare Hotel. No heated seats and the rooms were freezing when we arrived. There are no dressers so you have to live out of suitcase for a week. The washroom reminded us of being on a small boat. The breakfast was always cold (when it was suppose to be hot), they continue to run out of coffee (knowing that a big group had just checked in). They were not prepared for our numbers. The accommodations felt like a small step up from a Hostel. I would say this Hotel is good if you are in your 20"s.

Our tour company picked this place somewhat based on the reviews, however we were quite surprised when we got here as the hotel quality don’t reflect the posted reviews as a cozy, comfortable spacious place. First the positives-great location for a lot of restaurant selection (you still need reservations to get in), close to Echoland Spicy bus stop, the place is clean and the front desk staff are very nice and most speak English. The rooms are tired and rustic and there is no dressers or shelving for your clothes. You will need to live out of your suitcase. There is no place to hang your towels to dry. The bathroom is very small and bathroom shower works off a hose off the sink tap so you need to turn on the sink tap, adjust the temperature before stepping into the tub for a shower. The sink leaks so every room has a bucket beneath the sink to collect the leaking water which also doubles as the trash can. The room heat does not work when you are out of the room so each day when return from skiing, the room is at best 5-10C and it takes 3-4 hours to warm up the room again. The place is barely a step up from a hostel room. The breakfast is very simple with a noodle/rice, wieners, runny eggs, salad bar and instant coffee. The toaster barely works so there is a line up to run the bread through at least twice. A number of our group had an upset stomach a number of days after eating breakfast there.
