This hotel should not be classed as a 5-star hotel, and really deserves zero stars. My family and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in the Executive Marina twin room. Not only was the room generally dirty, there was also an alarming amount of black mould in the bathroom and balcony. Upon entering our room, we found two dead cockroaches and someone else's hair in the bathroom entrance, dirty mirrors, mould in the shower and bathroom basin, dirty towels and cockroach poo on the sofa/sitting area. When I called housekeeping to rectify these issues, and to also service our room in the morning, they assured me the room would be cleaned up by noon. When my family and I arrived back in the hotel after a day of activities (~3pm), the room was not serviced or cleaned. I had to call housekeeping 3 times in order for our room to be serviced. When they finally "serviced" our room, only the beds were made! We followed their instructions to place the "change my bed sheets" card on the beds to let them know to change the sheets, and this was not done. To make matters worse, dirty towels that should have been replaced after following their instructions to have them changed, were not replaced and were found dirty, wet and in a pile on top of our bathroom sink near my daughter's toothbrush. Additionally, toilet paper was never refilled and we had to call housekeeping for an extra roll. Given we paid for a 5-star hotel experience, we expected at least some form of cleanliness and service at this place, but it is severely lacking. My sister-in-law stayed at the Bailey's Crystalbrook hotel for a similar price and had nothing but amazing things to say about it. Not only are the Crystalbrook facilities better and up-to-date, but it is CLEAN. I recommend going there!! Do not waste your money on Shangri-La Cairns.
