Shell Island Resort All Oceanfront Suites

The location was bomb, but I'm rating it a 1 because that high location rating is making this place look a lot better than it is. That's all it has going for it. "Resort" is a streeeetch. This is an overpriced motel that doesn't even serve free breakfast. You're welcome to spend $12 on a mid bacon egg and cheese but the kitchen is only open about 5 days out of the week. They serve lunch too but no dinner. The sheets are about a 200 thread count and each pillow probably cost $3. The mattress felt like rolling around on a sheet covered diaper and was also extra firm. The head of the bed was on the main hallway wall so every time someone walked by it was like they were right in the room with you. The A/C made a loud droning noise every time it kicked on. One of the toilet seats was only attached on one side and the toilet itself wobbled. Everything was rusted in the bathrooms with mold on the ceiling and shower curtain. The water smelled and tasted like sulfur but also the ocean a little bit. No batteries in the remote. PAPER thin walls and every time our neighbor shut their front door it was like a sonic boom that could literally be felt through the floor. The floors had dark grime around the edges and in the corners. It was also loud every single day we were there starting at 8:30 and lasting anywhere from 4-6 pm due to them repainting with a spray gun (I think there was an air compressor involved) and random hammering. Also no sponges so we just washed our dishes with the provided soap and our fingers. I am not one to leave reviews, but with how much money they're charging it's absolutely insane. We stayed three nights for a wedding and even with the discount from that it felt like robbery. I am very excited to sleep in my own bed tonight. Great for bird watching tho

Excellent service

We stayed two nights in early March in a king suite. The view from the room was amazing! Unfortunately, that's about where the praise ends. The furniture was dated and shabby. The sofa had significant stains on both arm rests. The bathroom had hair on the floor and in the tub, as well was on the bedroom throw pillows. After walking around the living room/kitchen area we both noticed that the soles of our feet were black. The wine glasses were filthy. We were given a packet of ground coffee but no filters so we had to use a paper towel (it actually worked!). The restaurant was closed during our stay due to low occupancy. Be sure to wear shoes when you walk to the beach as the boardwalk is nothing but splinters.
