Shendish Manor Hotel & Golf Course

Room was not as shown in pictures so was very disappointing, though we had booked a nice room in a Manor house for our wedding anniversary, but was in a room in the extended part of the Manor, that was simply just a room. Premier inn rooms are nicer and more cosy. Evening meal was disappointing, my burger bun was so burnt, you could still smell the burning when it was brought out. The staff however were very polite. Asked at reception for an additional pillow for my wife and was greeted with "no probably not, im on my own and no way to get you one" asked for my room number and never got one, however, frustratingly a few hours after asking when walking past reception there were three members of staff just standing around laughing having a good time. How is there no night porter? I have got to say the grounds where very beautiful, and the breakfast in the morning was very good. Overall a disappointing time away.

Unfortunately, our stay was rather disappointing. We weren't there for golf, just for a London/Harry Potter holiday. What was disappointing? Overall, the value for money was poor. The room was very old, and the rooms are incredibly noisy, both in the hallway and the bathroom. You can hear every conversation in the hallway, which is why I woke up several times. The bathroom isn't just noisy—there's no toilet brush either. The air conditioning in our room didn't work, and it was very cold; the bed linen was stained. Every time we tried to access our room, the key card wouldn't work, and we had to have it reprogrammed each time. It couldn't have been our fault, as it was impossible to open the door a second time just seconds later. The breakfast was disappointing and by no means substantial (eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, toast, jam, and cereal from a box). I could overlook that, though—British breakfasts are simply different from what we're used to. However, the water that came out of the drinks dispenser was a cloudy yellow liquid – so we decided against drinking it. The two highlights, though, were that we booked the hotel twice: once for one night through Harry Potter Studios, and then again for three more nights. I sent a message about this two weeks in advance – stating that we didn't need to change rooms (and received confirmation) – and mentioned this again at check-in and the evening before our scheduled check-out, reminding them and asking if we wouldn't be kicked out at 11 pm. Two men at reception confirmed this and mentioned they would also make a note of it. What happened the next day? We were knocked out and rudely told to leave. They apologized afterwards, but what would have happened if we hadn't been in the room? On the day of check-out, we wanted to store our luggage – which seemed possible, but when the luggage room was unlocked, we noticed it was completely cluttered with easels and other items and needed to be cleared out. Regarding the location: the path leads through a forest and ends at a cemetery. I wouldn't want to walk there alone at night in the dark, so we often used Uber. Overall, a real disappointment – even though we didn't spend much time at the hotel. For that price, we would have expected something different.

Avoid this place! Visited on a package through Warner Bros studios. Sullen welcome, the poor staff clearly haven't been trained, overflowing bins, litter left in our room, had to ask at reception for toilet paper After the room had been serviced. Poor food, restaurant service poor. Woken up by a staff member banging my door at midnight becuse they had screwed up someone elses room booking. Woken up again by the fire alarm early that morning due to faulty electrics in some room. Further Woken up that same morning by two men screaming abuse at one another in the golf course car park. No mention or apology for any of this at checkout, but asked twice to pay for an extra item ordered at dinner. The management seem far more interested in getting your money than delivering service. It's a pity for such a lovely old building in an ideal location. Avoid, photos are very misleading.
