I wasn't a guest at the hotel at the time, but I went through a rather humiliating and absurd situation there that made me never want to stay at a Sheraton again, especially not this Sheraton. We were strolling through Leblon and knew that at the end there was a Sheraton that we had always wanted to visit. We wanted to go to the beach next to the hotel (a beautiful and more secluded beach) and maybe, if we liked the hotel, plan our next trip to Rio there. Upon arriving at the beach, which had confusing and restricted access, as it was almost entirely controlled by the hotel, we ended up unknowingly using an access that was exclusive to hotel guests. Our idea was to stay on the beach first, but eventually use the hotel's services such as lunch or day use throughout the day. We were already on the beach, we had already put our towel on the sand, taken off our clothes to go into the sea, when we were called from afar by a hotel employee, in a "hey, psst" style with her index finger raised. I approached her without knowing what she wanted with us. What would be the normal reaction of a place that respects PEOPLE and values any potential customer? "Excuse me, sir, you used an exclusive access for guests. That's fine, since you're already on the beach, but from now on you can't use it!" I understand that hotels have their rules and, especially if they are clear, which wasn't the case here, I would respect them. But what was the employee's reaction? After the little finger and making me walk back to the hotel along the beach, she tells me: "You passed through an area exclusive to guests. I'll need you to pick up your things from the beach (WHICH IS PUBLIC AND WHERE WE ALREADY WERE), go back to the hotel, exit the way you came in, and return to the beach through the non-guest access." I was incredulous, because she really wanted to take us from a public place where we were already back at the hotel just to "kick us out" of there. We responded by saying that we also intended to use the hotel's services, to which they replied that even so, because those using the hotel's services CANNOT access the beach... only guests can access the beach through that entrance, and those who are not guests have to take a huge detour outside to the only other access. As always, what upset me most was the way they handled everything!! I am kind to people and expect kindness from others. They were aggressive in their approach and did so in front of other guests and employees. In the end, we were chased away in a "don't come back here" style, as if we were trespassers. Anyway, that was my experience, albeit brief, with the hotel, and it left a negative mark. The way we are received and treated changes everything. There are many hotels with beautiful views and comfort in Rio.
