Shinanoki Ichinoyu

It was a wonderful trip for the family as they paid special attention to many things.

A great hotel with delicious food. The location might be a little inconvenient if you don't have a car, but it's still highly recommended.

1) Overall: I would say the establishment is aging and on the verge of collapse. The staff's attitude needs to be addressed, especially considering it's a 4-star hotel. 2) The rooms: - The rooms are old-fashioned, smell musty and musty, and are cold. - The bedding is terrible: spring mattresses where you can feel the springs, pillows that are either too hard or completely soft. We only stayed two nights, but it gave us terrible back pain. This is not what you expect from a 4-star hotel with a spa/wellness focus. - Dust everywhere. We were afraid to sit on the sofa because it seemed so old and dusty. - The worst part: the toilets reek of urine, like French public restrooms... I don't understand how this hotel still has 4 stars with toilets that smell so strongly of urine. It's a disgrace. 3) Noise: Whether it's the ventilation or the refrigerator, everything makes an awful racket. Soundproofing is nonexistent. On the second day, we were woken up with a bang, apparently by the housekeeping staff vacuuming like a rebellious rhinoceros. 4) Staff friendliness: Everything seems to bother them. You get instructions at reception, written in red and bold. It's clear they're not to be disturbed. We were refused the 8 pm meal and forced to have it served at 7:30 pm, accompanied by loud sighs. (The brochure clearly states that you can be served until 8:30 pm...) 5) Food: Breakfast was complete and good, provided, of course, that you don't dislike Japanese food. Unlimited drinks are available at reception. 6) The hot spring: Our private bath was pleasant, although there was a strong chlorine smell (which is probably normal). 7) Surroundings: The village is on a busy road. The surrounding landscape is also neglected and, like the hotel, everything seems abandoned. It feels like an area that has been overexploited for the last 50 years and is now in decline—it's ugly! We won't be going back.
