Sonesta ES Suites Memphis

This is honestly the worst hotel I can remember staying at, it’s more like a flophouse. The fact they charged almost $700 for a four-night stay is absurd. I stayed here in December 2025 for a series of procedures I was having at Shea Clinic next-door. The furniture and fixtures are extremely cheap and seem to be just enough for them to say the rooms are livable. The beds had a pair of tiny, cheap pillows, a fitted sheet, and one single sheet on each bed. No blankets, comforters or anything to keep you warm. Also, the bed sheets had not been properly changed since the previous visitor and contained free hair. Other things like blinds, sink faucet handles, and other fixtures are in disrepair and put on sloppily. The bathroom looked dirty and probably also was not cleaned. The carpets and couch were also full of stains. Everything just looked and felt dirty. This is advertised as an extended-stay suite, and while it does have a kitchen there is no silverware, plates, glasses, pots, pans or anything else you would need to actually USE the kitchen. One of the heating units in the room was all blower and no heat so that was wonderful in winter. Likewise, for two of the days I was there the internet was not working. Speaking of Shea Clinic, the walkway between the two buildings has since been sealed shut and provides zero convenience; I imagine Shea sealed it to keep the clientele from the hotel out. You could say there are lots of people staying at the hotel that seem questionable. Saw people nightly doing drugs in their car in the parking lot. I was worried about leaving my vehicle in the lot. During my stay, someone from the city came to talk to the front desk clerk as I waited and questioned them about broken glass from an assumed break-in in the parking lot. The clerk didn’t seem concerned. On my third day there I found roaches around the kitchen area, and that was enough for me. I immediately went to the Hyatt down the road and stayed there. This place is trashy and has no business being in this nice section of East Memphis. I feel it’s only a matter of time before the Sonesta brand divests this hotel and it gets shutdown and changes name. If you read other one-star reviews, you can see the owner has been responding to bad reviews for quite some time. So, they’re aware there’s a problem, it just doesn’t seem it ever improve.

Arrived right before front desk was closing but the agent was very happy to help me out and make sure I was set in my room before she left for the night. Everyone was very nice and courteous. Room was clean and like a one bedroom apartment with everything I needed. Air worked perfectly. I’m happy with all my Sonesta stays so far in various cities.
