Spinel Hotel - Old City

A quiet hotel, and excellent value for money. The breakfast was good and the view was great.

Staying at the Spinel Hotel was truly one of the highlights of our time in Istanbul. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely cared for — not just as guests, but as people. Each morning begins with the most beautiful Turkish breakfast on the terrace, overlooking the Bosphorus. The view alone is stunning, but what truly makes it special is the woman who prepares and hosts breakfast. She is pure sunshine in human form — warm, kind, and welcoming in a way that immediately lifts your spirit. Starting the day with her hospitality sets the tone for everything that follows. The breakfast itself is incredible: a generous spread of cheeses, hand-made pastries, fresh breads, delicious Turkish tea and coffee, juices, and thoughtfully prepared dishes that feel both abundant and personal. You can tell it’s made with care and pride. The front desk staff were equally wonderful. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a map and thoughtful guidance on where to go, what to see, and — most helpfully — where to shop at fair, reasonable prices (which is more valuable in Turkey than you might expect). Every question we had was met with patience, knowledge, and genuine enthusiasm to help. The location is also ideal. The hotel is just a short, easy walk to the Blue Mosque and other major landmarks, making sightseeing effortless. At the same time, you’re surrounded by local restaurants and cafés that are noticeably more affordable than those in other tourist-heavy areas — a perfect balance of convenience and authenticity. As an American who isn’t especially well-traveled, the kindness and guidance we received here made the experience a thousand times better. Traveling somewhere so rich in history and culture can feel overwhelming at times, but the staff made everything feel easy, comfortable, and welcoming. Their warmth gave us confidence and allowed us to truly relax and enjoy the city. This hotel is more than just a place to sleep. It’s a place where you feel supported, welcomed, and truly taken care of. We left feeling grateful — not only for the comfort and beauty of our stay, but for the kindness of the people who made it unforgettable. We would return in a heartbeat.
