SpringHill Suites by Marriott Orangeburg

The staff, from the GM, Assistant GM, I-Janae and especially Allen were absolutely amazing. The A/C worked like no other hotel I have stayed at. The cleanliness of the room was impeccable. We had our hands full and I cannot get over the compassionate support from every single person that assisted us. We have marked this hotel as a favorite as we drive through often from Ohio to Florida.

We will not be staying here again. We regularly stopped here when traveling to Florida. I ask for an early check in online. We arrived 1 hour prior to regular check in at 3pm. The desk clerk didn't even look up our reservation and immediately said no rooms were available yet and I would need to return. She did take my name and phone number and said she would call me when rooms were ready. We went to get some lunch. We got a call a half hour latter. We showed up at 3 with a line to check in. We Got our room. The room smelled of chemicals and musty like it had been wet. As we went in We saw the cleaning lady who said she had to clean the whole floor by herself. The room next to us had the door proped open and smelled worse than ours. They left that door propped open for hours to dry out. We figured that was where most of the moldy smell was coming from. Anyway after we settled in after driving the whole day we noticed we had no remote for the TV. I went to the front desk for a remote and it took a while to get one. Got back to the room and the TV wouldn't come on with the remote. While looking at the TV I noticed a box that looked like it was falling off the back of the TV. Wow all the dust bunnies on the box, TV and wires and the box was unplugged. I plugged it in. The remote still didn't work. I was about to call the front desk. Well the room phone didn't work, looking to see if it was plugged in, more dust bunnies, real bad right next to the beds. Went to go to the front desk but the lady was already on our floor checking rooms. I told her the remote was not working. She came into the room. I told her and showed her the box I just plugged in. She said the box should be attached to the TV and should have been plugged in and to get it to work properly she needed to get another remote just for that box to get it to work and she would be back in 10 minutes. We waited for 30 minutes, no show. I decide to go to the front desk, but just before I am about to leave the room, I decide to try the remote and surprise the TV works. No one ever came to tell us they fixed it remotely or stood out in the hall with this special remote or anything. Anyway we were tired and planning on leaving early the next morning around 4am, so we wanted to sleep. Around 6 or 7 pm we are awaken by a large kid (we think) running back and forth above us. It Sounds like they are jumping on and off the beds. This goes on for over an hour. Already in bed, we look up the hotels phone number and call the front desk on our cellphone. We tell the front desk, male, our issue of what we think is a minor unattended making a lot of noise above us. We are informed they will check it out and call us back. We assume they would call us on the cellphone since the room phone does not work. Well the noise continued for a couple of hours and no one called back and if they did it was to a phone that didn't work. Yes we should have asked for a new room, but I was tired after driving for 9 hours, didn't feel like fighting or arguing with anyone. That being said I have been loyal to Marriott for over 30 years and always received good service and felt comfortable staying in their hotels. No longer. Since COVID we noticed the hotels are not kept as nice and service has suffered. In some places more than others. In this case a once nice hotel is no longer one I would stay at. Oh almost forgot. One of the reasons our room smelled bad was the wet carpet next to the air conditioner. I walked over near it to look out the window and got wet socks. Well yeah, if the drainage is blocked on an air-conditioner the water will over run the drip pan. There is a fix for that, but obviously no one at this hotel knows that. Corporate must really be trying to save money by not employing people who are trained. With one person cleaning a whole floor there isn't time to do a real cleaning or note the things wrong with rooms. We did have clean sheets but there was dust, dust bunnies mostly behind things, there is no deep cleaning!
