Steigenberger Alsik Hotel & Spa

We stayed for two nights over New Year’s Eve at the Alsik Spa Hotel, and overall we were very impressed with our stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, modern, and extremely clean. From the moment we arrived, the staff at the reception were very friendly and welcoming. We had booked a Junior Suite with breakfast on the 8th floor, and it exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious, stylish, and impeccably maintained, and the view was fantastic – especially over New Year’s Eve, which made the stay even more special. Breakfast was excellent, and the overall service, room quality, and hotel atmosphere were outstanding. We would absolutely love to return. The only real downside was the spa area. Even as hotel guests, access to the spa comes at an additional cost, which is quite high. Although hotel guests pay less than external visitors, a 3-hour spa slot costs over €40 per person, which is not insignificant. The spa itself is clean, modern, and very well equipped, so there is nothing to complain about in terms of facilities. However, at this price point, one naturally expects excellent service and hospitality. Unfortunately, this is where our experience fell short. Some of the spa staff appeared unorganized and not particularly friendly, at times even a bit condescending. For example, after our spa visit, we simply asked for a fresh bathrobe to use in our room, as the spa bathrobe was completely soaked. Initially, we were told this would be charged extra, which we found very surprising, considering hotel guests already have a bathrobe in their room. Only after we complained did we receive a replacement bathrobe free of charge. This unnecessary discussion left a negative impression. Another uncomfortable situation occurred on New Year’s Eve, when champagne was offered in the spa area – a nice and thoughtful gesture in principle. However, when we asked to refill our glasses at the bar, we were told quite abruptly that it was limited to one glass per person. While this rule itself would have been fine, the tone was unfriendly, and the staff member added that she could not remember who had already had a glass – despite the fact that several other guests had clearly received more than one. This felt arbitrary and unpleasant, especially considering that we had spent well over €300 in the spa within 24 hours. Conclusion: The hotel itself is excellent and highly recommendable – beautiful rooms, great service, and a very high standard overall. The spa facilities are also very good, but the service and communication in the spa area do not currently match the hotel’s otherwise outstanding level. With improved hospitality and consistency, the spa experience could truly live up to the premium price.

First off – it's expensive. But the hotel also offers a corresponding level of quality in its construction. The service is friendly, the breakfast is good, and the restaurant is also top-notch. It's probably not the place for a family vacation, but it's certainly ideal for a spa weekend in the very nice spa area (which also costs extra). The hotel is dog-friendly, but this comes at a price. We would gladly return.
