Had another amazing stay. Staff is always great and rooms and general vibe is so authentic to the stockyards and its history. Im super bummed to hear the whole place is going to be modernized and turned into another modern hotel. Will likely stay elsewhere once its remodeled.

Dirty rooms, sirens and loud trucks. If you go ask for a room not right on the strip. We chose the Stockyards Hotel both based on price and location. We don't need something as fancy as the Drover as we just stopped in for a day and night after coming to Dallas for work. We were totally pumped to stay in an older historic hotel with the cool old toilets with the tank up high (I own a plumbing company) and since it was right on the strip at the Stockyards we thought it would be really interesting. Well, it was interesting. Now admittedly this is my fault for not really doing more research about the stock yards, but essentially it reminds me of of Cherokee in North Carolina, but instead of fake American Indian trinkets and crap, it is just fake Cowboy trinkets and crap. Ok, to be fair, if you are a rancher, roper, real cowboy or you live in Texas, it would be great for you. You want a thousand dollar pair of boots? Check. You want to get a cowboy hat made for you? Check. Do you like dressing like a fancy cowgirl and going out to drink beer and eat bbq? Check. The two biggest things that we did not like were that the room was just dirty and the whole place was just loud. I feel like the staff is just phoning it in because the place is old and brown, so it is easy to cheat on cleaning. Lots of dust, dirt and grime. The old shower faucet is barely hanging on. This was in room 301. After the first night I should have asked for a room in the back of the building, not right overlooking the action on the street. The best part was that around 3am on Thursday morning before we had to get up for our flight, apparently someone tried to break in to the hotel or something because a loud alarm from downstairs started going off and it was probably 10 minutes. Getting back to sleep after that took a while. Overall it was just now what we were expecting. I think we are done with Kitschy places that look cool and old. In the end, they are just old. Red's Bar and the young gentleman with glasses at the desk were the only really good things. He was truly nice and helpful and the bar tender lady on Tuesday night the 24th was really nice and the food was very good.
