Super 8 by Wyndham Carbondale

Word of mouth is still the most meaningful way for a reputation to grow or crumble. During a recent stay at Carbondale’s Super 8, my hotel neighbors were belligerently loud, rude and inconsiderate of others. To top it off, they were also underage and participated in illegal activities that no one under the age of 18 can lawfully partake in. On this weekend night, the staff did absolutely nothing to problem-solve and accommodate the needs of other guests, including myself. Earlier in the evening, I tried to offer options such as moving me rooms, or even calling the police if things didn’t get better. Nothing was done. Ultimately at 4am after consistent loud nose and clear evidence of partying, it took me coming out of my room to the hallway, where I yelled at those who were disturbing the peace. Given my larger than life physical stature, my solution was successful, but not without being threatened with a “slap”’from the loud (and clearly high) neighbor who had to have been around 15 years old. The hotel’s night auditor was present, stood and watched. He offered no help or any form of support. The next morning, rather than offering understanding and letting me sleep in for a few, I was rudely rushed off. I tried to complain and was told to speak with management on Monday. Calmly, I called to request a refund on Monday. The manager’s solution- - - was to do NOTHING. Not a partial refund, apology, gift card of even free breakfast was offered, just excuses. Please consider how I was treated before you pay your hard-earned dollars for a night or two of respite only for staff incompetence and the obvious requirement of having to fend for yourself. At the Super 8 in Carbondale, the necessity of sleep turned into a luxury that may or may not come. And in my case, it clearly didn’t happen.
