We booked the SureStay Plus by Best Western Twentynine Palms Joshua Tree on August 12. We stayed at this property previously and had a great experirence. Our kids were excited for Best Western's awesome free hot breakfast. Upon arriving, we were told the property was no longer a Best Western and that it had changed to Inn at Joshua Tree. We were not given prior notice that it was no longer a Best Western. The room we booked was not available and we were downgraded. We, family of 5, did not fit in the room we were given. We were told they had no vacancy and the only options were to take the room we were downgraded to (King Bed room from a 1-Bedroom King Suite) or to try somewhere else. We stayed. In hindsight, it may have been better to stay somewhere else. The property is not the same as it was back in 2022. It is run down and looks to currently be undergoing renovations. The pool area was closed off. The laundry room was not clean and the dryer did not get hot. The ice machine was not clean. The 2nd floor we stayed on smelled like weed all day and night. The continental breakfast was standard. Cups of cereal, oatmeal, bread, coffee, etc. Not the free hot breakfast Best Western offers. The staff seemed stressed and unsure. They did their best, but they did not have the answers needed for the room downgrade and rate change. I needed to call Best Western to settle the difference. I paid with points and cash. They credited me the points back. We will not stay at this location the next time we visit Joshua Tree.

I truly curse myself for choosing this hotel. If I had just looked up reviews, I wouldn't have made this mistake. I feel sorry for my family. There are many good hotels in the area for this price. The moment I arrived, I started to feel uneasy because there weren't any cars. After checking in and checking my room, I seriously considered whether to ignore it and find another hotel. They gave me a second-floor room, but the stairs were a mess, and the room smelled so moldy it was unbearable. I requested a change, and while the room I was given was better than my initial room, it wasn't comparable to other hotel rooms. I didn't even want to stay overnight, so I changed my late check-out plan and am planning to leave early in the morning. There are plenty of good hotels in the area, so go there. The dust, room condition, location, and atmosphere will all exceed your expectations. Oh, and the water pressure in the room may be satisfactory. Today, I plan to sleep without a blanket, wearing long pants and a jumper. The two-star rating is for the room change. I feel like Asians are even sent to out-of-the-way rooms or second floors. On the way from the Grand Canyon to San Diego, I was considering many hotels to enjoy Joshua Tree, but after reading a blogger's post, I chose this one. I plan to leave a comment for that blogger soon. That's not true. Another foreigner commented, saying it felt like Dead City... I'm leaving tomorrow morning.
