Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge Americas Best Value Inn

We chose this hotel based on its Google rating of over 4, and it was a huge disappointment. We paid $240 per night (including taxes), and for that price we expected at least something cozy. In reality, it's a very basic motel, which, in terms of feel and quality, honestly corresponds to a 2-star hotel and, in my opinion, is worth $70-100 per night, but no more. The hotel isn't dirty, but it's completely uninviting and dry. There's nothing "Danish" about the rooms—no atmosphere, no character. The only thing that actually looks nice and somewhat lives up to the name is the brick reception tower. That's where the "Danish theme" ends. The room itself is very simple and characterless. Even the little details speak volumes about the service: for example, the shampoo tube in the bathroom was completely empty. We didn't bother to investigate the situation on the spot, so as not to spoil our mood. The pool and jacuzzi are so uninviting and uninviting that you don't even want to go in. This is definitely not a spa or relaxation area. Breakfast was also an unpleasant surprise. We arrived just before breakfast time, and the reception desk only had coffee and an empty tray with crumbs. When my partner asked where the breakfast was, the employee simply pointed to the empty tray. We took our coffee and left. The hotel's location is indeed good, but it's important to understand that Solvang is a very small town, essentially consisting of two main streets, so its convenient location is nothing special. I'm leaving this review not out of spite, but to ensure other guests don't rely solely on the high rating and have realistic expectations. If you're looking for comfort, atmosphere, romance, or even just the feel of "cute" Solvang, this is not the hotel. This is extremely basic accommodation at a vastly inflated price.

This is our favorite place to stay. Have stayed here since about 1969. It's centrally located...leave your car in the parking lot & walk to most of the shops & restaurants. Though the rooms are older they are clean & have all of the amenities...there are also a variety of types & sizes to choose from. Danish pastries & coffee in the lobby every morning. Chomps, great places to eat AND get coffee/baked goods, are right across the street. I would say to call Svendsgaards directly for their best prices.

Checked in this hotel and checked out within the hour and wasn’t refunded for the night. The room was terrible . Carpet gross , bedding awful, curtains filthy, hair in the bathtub that wasn’t ours. Huge patches in the ceiling for multiple ceiling leaks. Also we rented the room and was told it was a queen bed. It was not a queen bed. It was a full size. We told him we sleep in a queen and this bed was much smaller. This hotel is one of the worst rooms I’ve ever been in. Sadly out $250 for the night even though we didn’t even sit in the room. The guy at the front desk was nice but said he couldn’t do anything about a refund for the night. The lobby looks old but a lot cleaner and better than the room. Such a disappointment to drive here for a vacation and walk into that. If I could give a 1/2 a star I would. Don’t waste your money ! Find somewhere else to stay.
