Tango de Mayo Hotel

Was on a month long trip to Brazil and Argentina. This was probably the worst hotel I've stayed in ever. The first desk was rude and unhelpful when I asked him about recommendations for where to visit and not visit. I got told everywhere is great and safe. A lot of their recommendations are overpriced. For example, I asked for a transfer to the airport and they charged 50 dollars. It's cheaper on uber (40 dollars cheaper). The room had broken fixtures and the aircon did not work. I had my phone stolen outside the hotel (not the hotels fault) but the area around the hotel is not safe as I saw it happen to two other people over the 3 days I forced myself to stay. I asked for help from the same front desk and he was not helpful. He wouldn't let me use the front desk computer to lock my phone but instead the guest computers which were so slow. I asked him to help translate Spanish apple so that I could lock my phone and he kept walking off and coming back. He lacked the basic human skills and practical advice for someone who had their phone stolen. The next day I asked for help from the front desk and they allowed me to use their better computers. My Spanish is not 100% but I can understand gists of conversations and overheard the front desk lady saying to her colleagues that foreigners come and get their stuff stolen and cry and report it to the police when there's real crime not being resolved. The breakfast was inedible - it was dry and sat there probably since the start of the breakfast. There is no way the hotel is 4*. Look - if my phone hadn't been stolen, my interaction with the front desk would be minimal but would not overlook the room being dated, things broken and the food being trash. Because my phone was stolen, I had to interact with the front desk and they were utterly useless and not sympathetic. If you're spending your hard earned cash on a holiday, find somewhere that will help you if you need help. If you don't speak Spanish, don't bother staying at the hotel - they don't like English speakers.. especially Brits (not my fault!)

I didn't stay at the hotel, but I did visit its spacious terrace. The place is beautiful in itself, and the views are very interesting, especially the view of the Barolo Palace. The concierge at the door is rather unfriendly when it comes to turning away walk-ins. There's a happy hour in the late afternoon and evening. A lovely terrace to enjoy in the summer.

This 1930s Art Deco hotel is located in downtown Buenos Aires. The hotel's atmosphere reflects the Tango theme. Numerous decorations, even the carpets in the rooms and lobby, feature Tango steps. The location in Downtown Buenos Aires is convenient for other districts. The rooms are clean. Breakfast is moderately good. The rooftop bar is closed. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is pleasant.
