Tennen Onsen Matsuyama New Grand Hotel

I stayed here for a night without meals while touring Matsuyama's hot springs at the end of the year. The large hot spring bath has two bathtubs: a hot spring bath and a heated bath. The hot spring bath is lukewarm, around 36 degrees Celsius (I was told that it is disinfected with chlorine under the guidance of the Ehime Prefectural Public Health Center). The heated bath is heated, circulated, and disinfected with chlorine. The single rooms don't have unit baths, so they were quite crowded. It was a cold day due to the end-of-year cold wave, so it was nice to be able to stretch out and warm up in the large bath. Considering that most accommodations at nearby Dogo Onsen use pumped water and are circulated and filtered/disinfected, having a private hot spring bath with its own source is a surprisingly good deal. The public baths at Dogo Onsen are only about 10-15 minutes by tram or bus, so you can still enjoy your time at Dogo Onsen without having to stay overnight at the more expensive Dogo Onsen. Also, since it's close to Matsuyama's downtown area, Okaido, you won't have any trouble finding a place to eat, even if you're staying overnight without meals. There are restaurants affiliated with the hotel that offer this service (you'll receive a flyer at check-in). However, perhaps because it was the end of the year, I recommend making a reservation for dinner in advance (I couldn't get a reservation on December 29th). For breakfast, you can choose from restaurants like McDonald's and Yoshinoya in the Okaido arcade, but there's also a microwave, so convenience store food is also an option. The rooms are fairly standard for a modern business hotel. I chose the "eco multiple-night" plan, but they provided replacement towels and toothbrushes by hanging them on the doorknob, so it wasn't particularly inconvenient. Overall, I think it's a well-balanced business hotel with a hot spring.

I stayed for several nights while sightseeing in Matsuyama City and Dogo Onsen. The price was reasonable. However, there is no restaurant, so you have to eat breakfast in the nearby shopping district. The hot spring bath is open until the morning, so you can take your time in the bath! I used the parking lot next door.

Room facing the elevator on the 2nd floor of the East Building. Voices echoed from the next room and the hallway. I imagine it would be a no-go if a foreigner were there, even with the soundproof door closed. There was no odor in the room. It didn't feel like they were trying to cover up the cigarette smell with deodorant spray, and it was nearly odorless, which was nice. The front desk staff were polite and easy to understand. They were always happy to answer any questions. The bath was clean, but cleaning supplies were left out in the changing room. The hot spring water was about 41°C, which was perfect, but I think it would be better if it was just a degree warmer. The affiliated parking lot fills up quickly. I arrived at night and it was full, which made me panic. It's best to reserve a spot early.
