I recently stayed at the Ambrose Hotel while my mother was undergoing surgery at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, and it could not have worked out better for our situation. I needed a place that could comfortably accommodate my dad, my dog, and me while allowing me to shuttle back and forth to the hospital easily. The Ambrose ended up being just about a two-minute drive from the medical center, which made an enormous difference. When my mom had surgery there a few years ago, I stayed closer to the ocean. Even though it was only about a mile and a half away, the traffic made it take 15 minutes each way to get to the hospital. This time, being so close made everything so much easier during a stressful few days when I was going back and forth constantly. The property itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. It was also incredibly convenient to have Tartine right across the street for coffee, breakfast, and quick refreshments. There are also plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and even specialty markets like Erewhon within minutes. Most importantly, the hotel was very accommodating for my dog Grace, which was essential for our stay. All around, it was a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it—especially for anyone who needs to be close to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

Pre-paid for two night stay over the weekend. Neighborhood is nice and convenient but I will stay elsewhere next time I visit Santa Monica. Some specifics: 1). Arrived on Saturday, 45 minutes before the regular checkin (3PM). Despite having rooms available they said I had to wait until the official time. 2). Front desk staff were condensing and unfriendly. 3). Pre-paid charges included $92 Tax Recovery Fee and $177 Services Fee in addition to the room charges. 4). They scanned my credit card for incidentals (expected) and parking but when I returned home I was charged additional taxes and amenities fee. When I called the front desk, again I encountered a condensing staff informing me I should have read things more closely. 5). Happy to pay for an amenity fee but there was no bar or restaurant (just a complementary happy hour) and a very small fitness facility. I am a frequent business and leisure traveler and will definitely not stay at this facility again.
