My wife had booked dinner and a room as a surprise 40th birthday present for myself. She works full time, we have two kids, so life is busy - but she carved out the time to diligently research the best options and landed with the Bull. Everything was planned months in advance - childcare for the kids, travel plans, activities in and around the area etc. And as we neared Burford having driven from Stoke-on-Trent, around lunchtime on the day we were checking in, we receive a call from The Bull stating they have no water - “we haven’t had it for 3 days but we were assured it would be sorted by now but it hasn’t been”. Can The Bull be held to account for an issue with Thames Water? No, I’m a reasonable person. Could The Bull have informed my wife, as a courtesy and so that she could consider contingency plans, in the days leading up to our stay given they had been experiencing problems for days prior? 1000% - and that is what I think is a disgrace. I spoke with the team - lots of excuses, no accountability for the fact they didn’t give my wife the courtesy heads up “we’re not going to cancel an entire weekend for something which may not be an issue”. That’s a sign of how they operate and do business, which for me is not what I would expect from an establishment like this. Perhaps they could go over and above to help us find another hotel? Nope, that was on us. Perhaps they would offer some compensation in the event we would have to pay more to find a last minute alternative? “That’s what travel insurance is for”.

£17 for a very mediocre medium glass of rosé wine??? Seriously? I felt I was being conned and I wasn’t offered a wine list to see the pricing. Very poor service all round. The whole place had a feeling of more style over substance which was so disappointing
