The Elysian Boutique Villa Hotel

For a 5-star hotel, our stay was good overall but had some noticeable areas that need improvement. The biggest downsides were the creaky bed, loud bedroom fan, and mosquitos in the room even though we always kept the doors closed. There were also some maintenance issues such as leaking and visible water damage above the shower and along parts of the villa, a loose toilet seat, and couches that could really benefit from a steam clean. These small details matter more when you’re paying 5-star prices. On the positive side, checkout at 12pm was great and we really appreciated that the hotel kept our luggage after checkout. Daily cleaning was good, the internet was reliable, and the villa was well equipped with air-conditioning in both the bedroom and lounge, a small TV, and a private pool which was absolutely amazing in the Bali heat. The pool wasn’t overly chlorinated, which was nice, though saltwater would be even better. Breakfast was decent and included every day. The coffee was excellent. It would be nice to see a bit more variety, especially with fruits like bananas which I assumed would be in abundance. Trying the salak (snake skin fruit) was a fun and unique experience. The complimentary water system was good – starting with two bottles and then four per day – but larger bottles would be more practical since you can’t drink the tap water and you don’t want to keep asking for more. We did appreciate that the water was treated, so brushing teeth, washing our face, and showering felt safe. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were generous in size, which was a nice touch. The tour guide offer was kind, but the destinations felt like tourist traps that pressure you into buying things (jewellery, batik, etc.). We would have preferred more authentic experiences like rice fields, salt farming, fishing villages, local farming, or even things like swings, llamas, or horse riding. Massage and dinner prices at the hotel felt extremely expensive. A place just 3 minutes down the road offered the same services for a quarter of the price (800 at the hotel vs 130 outside). I understand paying extra for convenience, but this felt excessive. There should be a middle ground where guests feel comfortable paying more without feeling ripped off. Toilet paper was very thin, meaning you had to use more than necessary, although it was always restocked which we appreciated. Overall, the villa experience and private pool were fantastic, and the comfort features like air-conditioning and treated water were strong positives. However, maintenance, pricing, and small comfort details need attention. There is a middle ground between Aussie pricing and Bali pricing where this place could feel much more reasonable and encourage return visits.

There are so many villas to choose from in Bali, but after watching a YouTube video review featuring Ardi, this place looked too good not to try — and it absolutely lived up to it. We were checked in by Ardi and he made us feel very welcome from the start. Our villa looked amazing and every staff member we encountered was super friendly. Tiara was always so lovely to us at the restaurant and even booked us into the onsite cooking class, which was a lot of fun. The chef was fantastic, we made some great-tasting food, and it was later served to us at a time that suited us by the pool. We also tried the floating breakfast in our villa, which was a really cool experience. Every meal we had was fantastic. I don’t usually write Google reviews, but I wanted to share this because staying here was genuinely the highlight of our holiday. Highly recommended. James and Melissah
