I spent a lot of time researching where to stay in Istanbul and specifically wanted something not buried in heavy tourist traffic, but still close enough to walk to the metro and get around easily. Meretto Hotel Istanbul Old City was exactly the balance I was hoping for. The accommodations feel true to the neighborhood. The furniture and decor reflect the area instead of the generic, modern hotel look you could find anywhere. If you are looking for sleek, newly remodeled, ultra modern rooms, this probably is not the place. But when I travel, I want to feel like I am in the city I came to see, and Meretto delivers that. The rooms are on the smaller side, but that seems pretty standard for Istanbul. I do not need a big room when I am traveling. I am there to explore, so it never felt like a problem. What really sets this hotel apart is the staff. Everyone I interacted with was kind and helpful, but Mehmet truly went above and beyond. He helped me order food, answered a steady stream of questions with patience, and even walked with me to an ATM to make sure I found the right one. It did not feel performative. It felt like someone making sure a guest is okay. That matters when you are far from home and trying to figure everything out. They are thoughtful in small ways too. They make sure you always have plenty of water, and they offer hot tea if you are sitting in the lobby. There are hundreds of hotels in Istanbul, but I am genuinely grateful I found Meretto Hotel Istanbul Old City. For the rates they charge, it is excellent value, especially because of the people who work here. I would absolutely stay here again.
