The Next Door - Hostel

I’m a Japanese woman, and this was my first time staying at a guesthouse. Compared to a hotel, it felt very casual — more like staying over at someone’s house! The shared living room and kitchen were spacious and convenient for cooking or doing a bit of desk work. You can also use the dishes and utensils provided. However, the bedroom, sink area, and shower room were not very clean. There were some leftover personal items (like someone’s used toothbrush), and I noticed some dust and mold in the corners. The toilet was relatively clean, which was a relief. Since everyone wears shoes inside, people who prefer to go barefoot or in socks might want to bring disposable slippers or sandals. Most of the guests seemed to be international travelers, though there were some Japanese guests as well. Everyone was quiet and respectful, so I was able to sleep well. There were two Japanese men at the front desk. The one who helped me was friendly and kind, but the other was just on his phone the whole time (maybe he was checking reservations on the computer?). I didn’t notice it myself since I speak Japanese, but I heard that the male staff might not speak much English — though I’m not completely sure about that.

The bed smells bad. Shaving and toothbrushing are charged. There is a charge for the rooftop.

Don’t go!!! The front desk staff only speak Japanese, and communication in English is almost impossible. The guy at the front desk is arrogant and rude — he literally acts like he’s too good to even look at you. The bed? Don’t even try to look closely. The blanket feels damp, and there are crumbs and debris under the sheets. The shared bathroom and shower are always covered in hair.
