The Originals City, Hôtel Colmar Gare

+: We appreciated the proximity to the train station and the city center; everything is within walking distance, which is really very convenient. There's also a Carrefour City nearby to "compensate" for the lack of a restaurant at the hotel. -: Where to begin... (1) A room that wasn't ready until 4 pm upon arrival (even though it was advertised as possible from 3 pm), and the "cleaning" was sometimes done in the middle of the afternoon, sometimes not at all (unemptied trash cans); not to mention the carpet, which is in questionable condition (just look at the state of the bottoms of your socks when you walk on it). (2) Poorly maintained amenities (toilet that wobbles when you sit on it, towel rack that comes loose and falls off in your hand when you grab a towel, very basic heating depending on the room, and not enough towels per person). (3) Rooms are sometimes very small, as is the elevator. (4) The sound system is absolutely disastrous; you can't exactly re-educate inconsiderate guests, but to be able to hear your neighbor's phone vibrate and hear conversations on the other side of the wall word for word, there's definitely room for improvement in terms of soundproofing. And let's not forget the extremely close railway line, against which even double-glazed windows offer no protection. A truly hilarious piece of local tradition, even written on a sign, recommends closing the bathroom door in the hope of reducing the train noise transmitted through the conduits. (5) The breakfast price listed in the room booklet differs from the price quoted at the time of payment (€11 versus €13), and even then, your word is questioned when you point it out instead of, for example, apologizing or offering some kind of compensation. Beyond that, the price is really high for what's offered; just like the room rates, which are completely excessive given the amenities ("Oh yes, but it's Christmas"...). (6) Lack of secure luggage storage, and when we politely expressed our surprise, as frequent hotel and travel guests, the discourteous response was immediate. (6) And to top it all off, the cherry on top: a rather unpleasant welcome and interactions with most of the reception staff, with the exception of Claudio, whom we thank again for his consistently cheerful disposition, even when faced with a difficult guest or an unkind manager.

Excellent location, not far from the train station and the city center (Christmas market). The staff were kind and professional, and the breakfast was excellent. Comfortable bedding. I highly recommend it.

Great location, terrible room. They charged me for a Classic room and made me sleep in an economy room with a bed pushed to the floor where there wasn't even room to open my suitcase. Hair in the bathroom, two small towels and only one broken face towel, and they never changed the dirty sheets. It was my second year staying here, and I brought my parents and friends. I made a terrible impression. When I asked to leave my bags for four hours after checkout, they even huffed and puffed. A truly terrible experience. In December, this place cost €240 a night; I'd rather pay €300 and not be ripped off.
