Good size rooms how ever the mattresses need replacing in most rooms stayed here 10 weeks and every room been in had mattresses fit for the recycling center and heating only works in a few of the rooms tell reception and all you get is blankets left on youre bed the following day understand it is a old building but it's in massive need of some serious routine maintenance

Your night staff need more maners .I phone to book a room .yes was late .but his manor. Was not good .needs to be retrained .as I come from hotel life .not good

Positives: Good parking, breakfast was nice but limited, *mainly* kind staff and the pub food was tasty. Negatives: On arrival, I was asked for a £50 deposit via a physical card, despite having already paid in full online. This requirement was only mentioned in small print on the Booking.com confirmation page under “view more,” making it easy to miss and not clearly communicated in advance. I didn’t have a physical card. I also witnessed several other guests being surprised by this requirement at check-in, suggesting this is a recurring issue rather than an isolated misunderstanding. When I queried this, the female staff member dealing with the issue was condescending and stated that “most hotels work like this,” which did not reflect my experience and was not helpful in resolving the situation. I was initially told I could not check in without a physical card, but this was later authorised using Apple Pay after I mentioned requesting a full refund. This inconsistency added unnecessary stress after a long journey. The room was cold and there was no thermostat or clear way to control the heating. Although staff provided an extra duvet and acknowledged the temperature, the room remained uncomfortable, and showering in the cold room was unpleasant. The hotel was full so I could not be moved. The room also had several visible defects, giving the impression that it was not well maintained. I took photos on arrival to avoid any issues with the £50 deposit. There was no fridge, the telephone was broken and my room key (card) continuously stopped working when I left the room, needing reactivation at reception - even when I went out of my way to avoid contact with my phone. During the night, the fire alarm sounded around 2:30am. Guests appeared to self-evacuate to the lobby without any staff directing or management of the situation. The person at the reception desk (possibly the manager) remained on the phone, which added to the confusion. Guests were not asked to go outside, and there was no visible sign of a fire. We were not informed what was happening for over 20 minutes, and it was only later confirmed to be a false alarm. The lack of clear communication and organisation was concerning, particularly in terms of how a real emergency might be handled. Overall, the stay was affected by unclear deposit information, the temperature of the room, the condition of the room, and the way the false fire alarm was managed. It was not good value for money and I would not choose to stay again.
