The Pelham London does not meet five-star standards. Important to note: the bed is ultra-soft. If you are accustomed to a normal, medium-firm mattress, this hotel should be avoided. You literally sink into the bed, making proper sleep impossible and causing neck and back pain. This applied to both rooms. The hotel confirmed that no firmer mattresses or suitable pillows are available. Despite a polite written request made in advance for a higher floor and a pleasant view, we were assigned a clearly inferior room located directly between two corridor doors, making every entrance and exit loudly audible due to extremely poor sound insulation. The room had a worn bathroom with outdated plumbing, visible dirt on the window, and a dysfunctional layout that made it impossible to open even a small suitcase. Noise was constant, including an unregulated ventilation system that activated automatically when the bathroom light was switched on. Combined with the same ultra-soft, uncomfortable bed, the room was effectively unfit for rest. It was arguably the worst room in the hotel. The Front of House Manager (R. P.) confirmed a room change for the following morning, then later denied having said this. We packed in reliance on that confirmation. Only after wasting a considerable amount of our holiday time and submitting repeated complaints was the room changed to another of the same category. The replacement room was slightly larger and had newer bathroom fittings, and the ventilation and layout issues were no longer present, although the room still faced a wall but this indicates that a more suitable room had been available. Throughout these interactions, the Front of House Manager maintained a superficially polite manner while providing misleading information and no effective resolution. After check-out, no interest in guest feedback was shown; courtesy was limited to a rehearsed smile. The reservation was made directly with the hotel. Unfortunately, this also meant there was no opportunity to leave feedback on Booking.com. The treatment received gives the clear impression that this was taken into account. This is not a 5-star hotel. At best, it is a mediocre 4-star property. Breakfast was acceptable. Only LOCATION is great. Based on this experience, the hotel cannot be recommended.
