The Resort at Glade Springs

Location was great. Property is beautiful. Resort was gated but that felt irrelevant when we were told by an employee to not trust the locked lockers at the Leisure (activity) Center. With that in mind, we opted not to use the pool, sauna, or steam room. Front desk service- not really the friendliest check-in, but maybe the woman was tired and cranky at 4pm. Shuttle provided if you can catch it to take to Winterplace slopes and simply around the resort. Our room was spacious and clean, but it and very dated. The couch was awful and was broken down and has stains on it. Pictures tried to give perspective. Overall, it was a bit pricey for it being so dated (taxes, fees, breakfast, and any extra fun activities offered with cost), so plan accordingly. No frills in the room (no tea bags, no complimentary amenities other than shampoo, conditioner, body soap. Fireplace in the Jr. Suite was a treat and used daily. The bed and pillows are pretty decent. Mini fridge was cold! Restaurants on site, which was nice. Overall, it was worth visiting. If we visit the resort again, we'd make it a point to go in the summer. The room wouldn't be as much as a focal point in warmer weather.

My husband and I snuck away for a four-night Christmas getaway, and it was exactly what we were hoping for—simple, fun, and activity-filled. We truly did it all. Christmas Eve was spent at Bunkers enjoying prime rib, a margarita pizza, and a few games of pool. On Christmas Day and the day after, we took advantage of the free shuttle to Winterplace for skiing (15-20 mins away), which was incredibly convenient. Christmas night dinner at Glade’s Grill was a highlight: a crab and shrimp cocktail appetizer with enough crab to feed three or four people, an excellent wedge salad, and filet mignon paired with the best loaded baked potato we’ve ever had (thick bacon included!). We also made great use of the leisure center. Disc golf, pickleball, the gym, and basketball were all free. We went bowling ($12 per person) and spent some time in the arcade ($10 credit). While we didn’t swim (free) or get in a round of golf (extra), there was truly no shortage of things to do. Our room was an average dated hotel room but perfectly comfortable with king bed. The jacuzzi tub was a huge plus for soaking after long days of skiing, and our balcony in the main resort overlooked the beautiful Christmas lights. The free hot buffet breakfast in the Rotunda each morning was excellent, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. A few minor downsides: some restaurant menu items were unavailable (cheese fondue, Amstel Light, guacamole), and one night at Bunkers we waited over an hour for our food (but the quesadilla was amazing!). Outside the gated resort, the town itself is fairly run down, but there are worthwhile nearby spots like The Grandview of the New River (10-15 mins away) and Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, WV (30 mins away). (Note: coal mining tours are seasonal, running April–November.) Overall, we had a wonderful Christmas getaway—low-key, activity-driven, and full of great memories.

The resort is nicely situated on a massive land, lots of various activities on site.Also the hotel provides shuttle service to the ski resort. We enjoyed the stay, the only thing I wish they have improved was breakfast, add protein with high protein, home made cereal bars.
