It had been a great experience staying at The Shells Resort. Not only the resort is located in a picturesque location but also has a very hospital staff who have provided a great service and experience throughout our entire stay.

Pros: The area is lush and green, with beautiful trees, bushes, and flowers. The villa is spacious with warm wooden decor and cozy lighting. Breakfast is good and varied. It’s a peaceful corner, even during high season, with not many people around. Cons: The biggest downside was witnessing genuine cruelty when a staff member killed a small snake that had appeared near the main pool. We alerted the staff hoping they would safely relocate it for the wellbeing of both guests and the animal. Instead, the man beat the snake with a large stick. It was shocking and deeply upsetting, and I’m not sure such an action is even legal. Truly terrible, poor creature. I sincerely hope the management does not instruct staff to kill any potentially dangerous animal on sight. This is not a humane or civilized approach. Responsibility should extend beyond guest safety to also respecting the wildlife that makes Vietnam beautiful. If anyone from management is reading this, I urge you to reconsider this practice. Other negatives relate to the hotel feeling quite worn and poorly maintained. Several areas look neglected, such as non-working mini fountains, exposed wires in the pool, and torn towels. Cleaning was very basic. The ashtray on our balcony was never emptied, and the floor was not cleaned once during our week-long stay. The restaurant prices are extremely (!!) high (for example, a Pho Bo costs 210k VND compared to 50-80k in town). It seems the hotel takes advantage of its remote location and the lack of nearby alternatives. Fortunately, Grab is inexpensive, and within 5–10 minutes you can find great dining options outside the hotel. Overall, this is not a 5-star property. It’s difficult to understand how it holds such a rating given the actual condition and service. P.S. We booked this property with an early booking discount on one of the booking platforms for $95 per night which is already high in comparison to alternative but more or less ok, but I know people book the same for $160+ and I understand their deep frustrations and shock for value/money
