The Sunshine Resort

We spent three nights here as a family of three. As you can see from my many reviews, I enjoy writing them frequently and always in a very positive way. We booked a standard room for two adults and a toddler. Upon inquiring, we were told there was no crib. I could have an extra bed for over €20 per night. I booked it anyway, as our child is very active at night. However, the extra bed was an outrage. It was extremely worn out, which by no means justified the extra cost. See photo. As soon as you turned over, the duvet cover slipped off, leaving you lying on the disgusting mattress. I'm happy to pay extra, but then the quality and price have to match. All the bedding was covered in stains (see photo). The rooms couldn't be darkened. The light-colored curtains didn't even fully cover the windows, so you could easily see everything from the outside. The rooms weren't cleaned. We were told that a sign had to be put out. This wasn't mentioned to us at check-in. There wasn't a sign in the room, and it wasn't visible. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be coming back.

I had a really great stay at The Sunshine Resort on Koh Kood and would definitely recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a relaxed beach vacation. The location is outstanding and probably one of the best beaches on the island. The beach is very clean, quiet, and perfect for swimming and relaxing. It feels peaceful and not overcrowded, which makes it a great place to enjoy Koh Kood’s natural beauty. The bungalows are spacious and very clean. The bathrooms were also exceptionally clean, which I really appreciated. The air conditioning worked very well and was quiet, so sleeping at night was comfortable. Another big plus is that the resort offers several things for free, such as kayaks, beach volleyball, and beach loungers. This makes it easy to spend the whole day at the beach without needing to go anywhere else. If you want to explore the island, you can rent a scooter directly at the resort for around 300 Baht per day. The breakfast was okay — a mix of Thai and Western options — but not exceptional. It’s good enough to start the day, though don’t expect a huge variety. The fruit shakes at the beach bar are very good though. For dinner, I would recommend walking along the beach to some of the nearby restaurants. Several good options are reachable within walking distance and offer great food with a nice atmosphere. Some reviews mention yellowish stains on the bedsheets. From what we could see, these mostly seem to come from sunscreen that guests apply while sitting on the beds, which can leave marks on the fabric. This would probably not happen if sunscreen was applied at the beach instead of directly in the room. Overall, Sunshine Resort felt like the most balanced and harmonious resort on this part of the beach. If you exclude the food, it is probably the most well-rounded option here. Visitors should also keep the price–performance ratio in mind and have realistic expectations. Some of the very critical reviews — especially some German ones — feel like typical overly detailed complaining without much perspective. If you keep the price and the island setting in mind, the resort offers very good value and a relaxed, authentic atmosphere on one of the best beaches on Koh Kood.

Unfortunately, we can only give this hotel three stars, as the value for money did not meet our expectations. The bungalow was very dirty upon arrival. The bedsheet had holes and yellow stains, and the pillow was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom is very basic; however, the water pressure was good, which is a positive point. Housekeeping only cleaned the bungalow every two days. Wifi didn’t work in our Bungalow at all. The reception staff did their job, but their friendliness was rather average. We did not use the breakfast service at all during our stay. The Thai food options were far too sweet for our taste, and the Western breakfast mainly consisted of toast with jam. As a result, we chose to eat breakfast outside the hotel. On a positive note, the air conditioning in the bungalow worked very well and cooled the room down quickly. The scooter rental was also a plus: 300 THB per day, or 250 THB per day when renting for four days. The scooters were in very good condition.
