The Ultimo

We had booked a room at The Capitol Hotel Sydney, but upon arrival we were informed that it was overbooked without any prior notice. The staff offered no apology or assistance with our luggage, simply telling us to walk 10 minutes to another hotel in the same group, The Ultimo Sydney. However, the room was shabby; the shower screen leaked, causing water to pool on the floor, and the room was infested with mosquitoes. It was more like a youth hostel than a hotel. We requested to move back to our original hotel the following day, but no one followed up, severely impacting our wedding anniversary plans. No advance notification was received via email, app, or phone. Staff provided no apology, no assistance with luggage, and no transport. We walked approximately 10 minutes carrying two 23kg suitcases. The replacement room was basic, with a leaking shower that caused water to pool on the bathroom floor and several mosquitoes inside. Requested to return to the original hotel on 24 Nov; no follow-up was received. The relocation significantly disrupted our stay.

To sum up the hotel I stayed at in one word, it was "a stylish hotel with great taste." From the exterior to the lobby and even the detailed design of the guest rooms, there was a sense of unity. While not flashy, it had a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, making it a pleasant space for both sightseeing and work. The hotel was also very clean, and I didn't feel any stress during my stay. First of all, what I personally appreciated was the free Wi-Fi. The speed was stable, and I had no trouble working online or watching videos. Some hotels have weak Wi-Fi, so this was a big plus. However, since this hotel is low-rise, with only three floors, it's not ideal for those looking to enjoy the night view or a panoramic view from their room. Those hoping for a view from a higher floor may be disappointed. However, the convenient location more than makes up for this. The hotel is located right in the heart of Chinatown, so there's no shortage of dining options. There are plenty of restaurants nearby that serve rice, so even if you stay for a long time, you won't end up missing out on Japanese food, which is a nice feature. There's also an Asian supermarket within walking distance, so you won't have any trouble with small purchases, buying drinks, or buying extra late-night snacks. Prices are particularly high in Australia, so eating out all the time can easily add up, but having a supermarket nearby can significantly reduce the cost of your stay. The staff are also friendly, and they respond cheerfully when you speak to them, creating a casual atmosphere. They maintain a comfortable distance without being overly intrusive, so even those unfamiliar with traveling abroad will feel at ease. The next thing I noticed when I actually used the hotel was the coin laundry system. You purchase laundry coins at the front desk and use the washing machine and dryer, which cost about 1,200 yen in total. This is a bit pricey for a hotel overseas, and it made me realize just how expensive prices are. It's convenient if you absolutely need to do laundry, but if you only use it "just in case," it's not very cost-effective. If you're staying for an extended period and will be using the laundry facilities frequently, you may want to consider using a nearby laundry facility. In fact, I was reminded once again that prices are rising across Australia. Eating out is more expensive than before, and even small purchases are more expensive than in Japan. In that sense, this hotel, with its good location and close proximity to a supermarket, is suitable for those who want to control their travel budget wisely. Overall, although it may not be suitable for those who prioritize views and the laundry service is a bit expensive, the convenient location, stylish space, friendly staff, and good Wi-Fi outweighed the benefits of my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to those who want to base themselves in Chinatown or for those who prioritize convenience when traveling. It was a well-balanced hotel that I would definitely consider again if I were to stay in the same area again.

Great location, easy walk everywhere we needed to go, room was reasonably priced, bed was comfy, a little noisy but thats kind of expected in a busy city.
