Top Resort

A very nice and pleasant resort. The advantage is that it's not a huge resort and you can relax here in peace. The staff is very friendly and helpful. But THE BIGGEST PLUS IS THE RESTAURANT. I don't think we've had dinner anywhere else on the island as good as here. Kudos to the chef. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away. There's also a mini gym with air conditioning right above the pool. Overall, I recommend it. Breakfast is included in the price.

The only good thing was the bed. Otherwise, we had nothing but negative experiences with the hotel, especially regarding how the hotel management handles customer criticism and complaints. I come to Koh Chang 5-6 times a year and have stayed in many hotels by now. However, this negative experience is unique. We booked 5 rooms including breakfast but only used 4, as a friend didn't make the trip. You receive a voucher for "breakfast included," which seems normal at first glance. BUT: The voucher only gets you 1 coffee, 1 butter, 2 slices of toast, and 1 egg. If you want, for example, 2 coffees or 4 slices of toast, you have to pay EXTRA! Booking.com advertised "breakfast included," which is an absolute outrage. In our opinion, this "free breakfast" is misleading and, at a room rate of 2,000 THB per night, an insult. Almost all of our friends had breakfast elsewhere as a result. Our complaint about the conditions was met with the hotel management's dismissive response, "They'll be gone soon anyway." The bathroom feels 30 years old, very sparsely furnished, and the shower cubicle, due to its age, rust, and broken condition, requires considerable force to open and close. The sliding doors leading to the balcony were also in very poor condition due to their age and wear, and some wouldn't close at all. It's astonishing that the hotel owners didn't renovate the bathrooms years ago. One of us even chose a different hotel because the condition was unacceptable. Since the rooms also smelled musty (which is to be expected given the building's age and lack of ventilation during the day) and had high humidity, we wanted to run the air conditioning during the day at a room temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, but the hotel refused. Although we paid for a room despite not arriving, and no electricity, breakfast, or cleaning fees were charged for it, we were refused permission to dehumidify the room. The reason given was the electricity cost, which they claimed was approximately 25 THB (0.7 EUR) per room per day. This contrasts with a room for which we paid nearly 6,000 THB, for which there were no electricity costs. We also complained about the musty smell and wanted to run the air conditioning. This was refused at reception, as management insisted on it. It's no wonder, then, that these rooms smelled so musty. We are surprised by other reviews that seem to cope with such conditions, as we unanimously found the hotel completely unacceptable.
