Top Rinderberg Swiss Alpine Lodge

We stayed at the Rinderberg Lodge for a family skiing trip. The lodge is located right on the ski slope, just steps from the Rinderbergbahn mid-station. The family room was large and clean. Room service wasn't provided daily, and the beds were sometimes left unmade. The wellness area with two hot tubs and two saunas is very nice, with a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. However, the hot tubs and saunas were unreliable; one day the hot tubs were cold (one ice-cold, one lukewarm), but the next day they were nice and warm. Dinner consisted of one appetizer, a choice of three main courses (meat, fish, or vegetarian), and one dessert. There were three menu options for children (chicken nuggets and fries, pasta, or Spätzle), but not all three were always available. There were no alternatives to the set dinner menu. The menus were simple and tasty, but several times the food was only served lukewarm. Once, the main course was forgotten, and main courses arrive at the table with up to 5-minute differences, even when ordering the same menu. The prices are relatively high (30-36 CHF for the main course, 10 CHF for the appetizer, 10 CHF for dessert), and the portions are rather small, with little or no vegetables (examples: steak with fried potatoes, no vegetables, no garnish, no sauce; spinach dumplings; spinach strudel; steak with fries; baked potato with sour cream). We assume that the plates are prepared and then refilled. A large portion of the staff does not speak German, but ordering drinks and food works in English. Although there are candles on the table, they are not lit. Salt and pepper shakers are also on the table, but some are empty, and many are very dirty. On Friday and Saturday evenings, techno parties with very loud music took place. On Friday evening, the music played until 1 a.m., so loud that the glasses in the room rattled from the bass. After complaining, the music was somewhat quieter on Saturday evening, but continued until 4 a.m., with guests being very loud in the stairwell. During both dinners on Friday and Saturday, the restaurant door was often open, making the restaurant very cold. Many guests ate dinner in fleece or down jackets, accompanied by loud techno music. On Saturday morning, the breakfast buffet was set up, but the entire restaurant was full of dirty dishes and empty bottles, and the tables were dirty from the previous evening. No coffee was served. On Sunday morning, coffee was available, but the tables had again not been wiped down. The hotel itself is in a very beautiful location and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it is very poorly managed.

It was my first time there, and probably my last. There was staff, nothing more, nothing less. Even though there weren't many people around, I was barely acknowledged. A "hello" and a "thank you" cost nothing. I was only there for a snack.

Great place for a cool ski weekend. We'll be back!
