The Troubadour Hotel New Orleans

The recent negative reviews of this hotel must have been very particular experiences because our 3 day stay was perfect from start to finish. Welcoming guy at the front desk gave us some recommendations, and let us check in 3 hours early. The room was clean and modern, and located just outside the French quarter but not at all “sketchy” as some people made it seem. It’s a great value and I’d happily stay here again!

I was hoping this would be a great weekend away for my husband's 40th birthday but this place ruined our trip. The hotel feels forgotten. All of the restaurants and the rooftop bar was "closed to renovation". And we only found that out a day before we arrived. Unfortunately, we had already paid in full. The initially helpful staff have TERRIBLE communication. I complained about a lack of housekeeping (I stayed for 4 days and never had my room refreshed despite requesting it at the front desk). Apparently all house keeping has to be requested by 11am to happen despite then charging $12/day fee for daily room management. But they, never tell you this outside of a posted flyer at the front desk in a sea of other flyers. It's a scam. That's the kind of information any good desk clerk should point out to guests on arrival. In the interim, we ran out of toilet paper and soap. Not to mention our first two nights, our shower had a clog that made the basin fill with an inch of water while you showered. Lampshades were damaged and there were mystery stains on the carpet. None of the phones in the rooms work and the internet is spotty at best. We sneezed the entire time from the dusty carpets. We opted for valet because we thought it would be more convenient but ended up having to wait 35 min for our $50/night valet service because the front desk attendant never gave our valet tag to the valet. Another couple was arrived after us, got their car, and we were still waiting. We were eventually refunded our parking for the night (from an off-site manager) and moved our vehicle to a garage 5 min away for half the cost. When I tried to complain about the room and other issues to the hotel supervisor, I was told that no one was in and I was given her hours for the next day. The next day, no one was on duty and the supervisor never showed. (Enter the only helpful employee in the entire hotel, Charlotte, who helped mitigate taking out our trash, unclogging our drains, and writing down our other complaints.). We were told the GM would be available to talk at 9am the next day. We delayed our departure to speak to him, but when it came time to talk, I was told he had a family emergency. When the supervisor, Gabriella, finally showed up, she was rude and dismissive. I was charged a final fee at checkout that was never articulated I would need to pay. She finally reversed it after telling me that all my problems came from me not reporting my issues. EVEN THOUGH I DID! She had a horrible attitude and escalated the conversation at every turn. I was really hoping being respectful to her would matter but it didn't. Any redemption this hotel had for me died when speaking to her. Watch this place, they will overcharge you hidden fees and not deliver the basic accommodations. I heard they are under new management and hope that they can turn it around. It could be an amazing and charming hotel if they learn how to communicate and treat their guests like they value them.

Very eclectic hotel with great views and even nicer accomodations.
